What the >>>?

I was out there, minding my own business, when a frog jumped out of a hole in the lawn. I do have "toad houses" as a design element in the corner but wow!!

scared the willies out of me...

he is brownish with bumps...is he a toad?

He had made a "nest" in the lawn. I looked for him later and he had covered himself up with the mulch. I coaxed him into a bucket and put him in the area of the toadhouse (overturned broken pottery, mulch, flowers etc). Hopefully, he'll find that more hospitable than dodging the blades of the lawn mower and weedwacker.

Probably a toad! A few years ago I decided to help my mum with the garden one day, a decision not taken lightly considering I was set to digging and normally I am squeamish about worms. Well I was petrified when the mud I dug started to jump out at me! It was a toad disturbed from its hibernating. Well I never recovered from this and haven't helped out in the garden since (except for fleece, and freeing birds from nets over the strawberry patch). My mum still can't believe that it should happen to me just when she thought she had a new garden helper!

Once I got over the surprise, I was okay with him. He is beneficial for the garden by eating insects, slugs etc,

gently relocated to the toad house(s). more hospitable than dodging mower blades.
