A good argument for increased security on your system, and passwords of greater complexity. Watch your bank and credit accounts for untoward activity. I hope there's no more significant fallout from this!

I got one of those emails, and I felt really bad for you! Although if mine including a plea to send money, I missed that part, I thought it was just an FYI.

I received your check, but I was holding it until you got home to ask if all were sorted out. Okay to proceed?

Glad to hear you're well, and I have to admit that I thought a sudden 3-day jaunt to Wales was pretty weird, but who knows? Opportunities arise!

I had a friend that apparently sent out one of those emails. A big red flag for him is that he is from the UK. I am sorry to hear that you were targeted too. Hopes for a fast recovery of info.

I don't know the details (not having encountered it myself) but apparently there's a family of malware/spyware that hijacks passwords and account information and there's automated systems doing the scamming. I've a friend who got hacked this way but I don't know how they cleaned up after - other than it was apparently through a popup.

Good luck!
