Ah, but which variety of Earl Grey? Are you a Twinings girl, or not?

You do know me, honestly - otherwise known as J of Oriel. Can I friend you?

I thought I mentioned in an earlier post that I received Twinings. Of *course* I am a Twinings girl! I refuse to drink what other Americans call 'tea'. Ewwww!!!!

You make me feel deprived. I love tea but it's impossible to get anything not American here.

You think American Earl Gray is gross? Try American Oolong. Destroying my culture ahhh.

You can definitely find good British tea in California. Twinings is available anywhere, and it is fantastic British tea. Harney & Sons also makes great tea, and you can order tea from the, too: http://www.harney.com/ . Also, Stash tea is fantastic, and available via mail order catalog at http://www.stash.com/... )

My preference is English Breakfast, wherever possible, and in abundance. The Starbucks conglomerate has come up with 'Awake' which is not bad in a pinch, supposedly their version of English Breakfast. I try to avoid Starbucks though. Tea Earl Grey Hot will also do in a pinch but ONLY because of Jean-Luc Picard and not because of the taste (it is too perfumy for my palate).

I remember drinking Irish Breakfast tea in highschool (god, 15 years ago...) but my coffee-shops don't carry that anymore for some reason. It wasn't bad at all.

We have tv commercials for Red Rose tea with the tag line "Only in Canada, eh? Pity." as if British tea conoisseurs lament the absence of Red Rose tea elsewhere........ It is certainly a drinkable tea but only as drinkable as an average table-wine; nothing fancy about it in the least. Certainly no "pity" for it's unavailability elsewhere (if there's any truth in advertising).

Yes, English Breakfast is wonderful. I am also the proud owner of English Breakfast by another wonderful British company (Harney & Sons). I've never even heard of Red Rose tea, much less partaken in it, and I don't know any Brits pining for it. I love the perfuminess of Tea Earl Grey Hot; I was ecstatic when I resumed watching TNG and remembered it was Picard's favourite.
Irish Breakfast is also very good, especially with Irish oatmeal and/or bread. I only drink Starbucks tea if people buy it for me; and I prefer to drink the herbal teas rather than the standards of Oolong, Darjeeling, and Earl Grey. I'd say my #1 tea is Earl Grey, #2 Darjeeling, #3 English Breakfast, #4 Irish Breakfast, #5 Oolong, #6 &c. various herbal teas.
