The no longer quite so slow slide into fascism

I'm kind of surprised more people aren't talking about the new brown shirts showing up to town hall meetings with ar-15 rifles and talking shit about rejecting democratic procedure and offing union workers ( Read more... )

a lot of otherwise intelligent people seem to see the gun carryers as some plot to discredit the "wide and democratic dissatisfaction" allegedly being expressed at these townhalls, rather than the right wing PR machine motivating people against their own interests and militarizing the efforts through agitating rhetoric.

me personally, i don't see an america ready to get angry and do something about their plight. if an illegitimate president and an illegal war that enshrined torture as an open policy for gathering intelligence didn't do it, and dozens of trillions given away to criminals didn't do it, I don't see how this issue is the one america finally decided enough is enough over.

i don't think most americans will be mad enough until people are being openly rounded into camps. they've been trained by TV to look for certain signs of fascism that don't apply to america, and discounting all signs of fascism that aren't as black and white as movie portrayals.

I agree. For me I think it is probably being used two fold one as a way to discredit real dissent from real citizens on both sides but I also think this will be the way the government can clamp down on more of our rights and increase their power. They already have the Radicalized Homegrown Terrorist Act which is broad enough to include most Americans along with a lot of other legislation that can be used to lock down cites. I really don't see it as Republicans vs Democrats on this issue (they are really the same despite their rhetoric) but I believe they are working together to achieve a particular outcome. Stir up groups on both sides and the light the match on the powder keg. There is a lot of rumors of warning floating around that groups may be preparing for another domestic terrorist attack like Oklahoma. Well what better way to usher in even more fascism then in the guise of protecting citizens. Personally I think this is all a big setup by the government after all Clinton and Bush have already set the president for using ( ... )

I was just going round and round with some pagans about how they shouldn't support "folkish" heathens. Their excuses are just that. What really motivates them is straight-up fear. Which is understandable, but tragic.
