of course I'm concerned, too - who wouldn't be? - but even I was a little worried when I got into a situation around here that involved two guys, a beat up old car, some *serious* intoxication (alcohol AND heroin), and an instance of "leaving the scene of an accident." I became concerned that there might be some sort of retribution - but the two of them turned out to be quite repentant, got through their court date(s), and - hopefully - changed their ways.
I'd like to think that many of these "bad guys" are opportunists who are out on a limb because they've been getting away with it. When they are suddenly caught "in a bear trap" and reality hits them in the face - it's time for serious reconsideration of their priorities and a "U-turn!" How they got there ceases to be an issue - they have bigger life problems to confront than wanting to get even ... so the odds are in favour of your son being fine :)
*warm hugs*
