He thought he led a tough, busy life with a cranky boss to please but after a baby was left - deliberately
or not, he had no idea - at his doorstep, Jung Yunho doesn’t know if he should laugh or cry.

Prologue

He stared out of the wall length window from his position on the cold marble floor, surveying the dark surroundings that were soaked in dead silence. The lights of the tall apartment buildings around his own that usually dazzled in the night were all out, the hour too early for anyone to be awake.

That was, except for one man who woke up when most people were asleep, to type away on his laptop while referring to a number of thick ring files piled up beside him on the coffee table. Only those who had important proposals to finish for their bosses’ meetings were required to wake up during the wee hours of dawn to squint at laptop screens with half-conscious minds.

A sense of accomplishment rushed through his veins as he typed the last sentence, hitting the ‘Save’ button before rolling his head, groaning as he massaged his tensed shoulder muscles. He picked up his hand phone and checked for the time, already running through the day’s activities in his mind. In about two hours, Yunho would need to make a morning call to his boss - the thought of it alone made him flinch. Right now though, he had another important person to kick out of bed.

He got up from the floor while listening to the dial tone, feeling the numbness in his butt as he ambled into the spacious kitchen for a glass of juice. Just as he was about to hang up and redial, the recipient responded.

“Mmghmm… I’ve paid my bills for this month already…”

“Good morning to you, too, Changmin. It’s 5 AM already - you need to get your ass off the bed and play nanny to those babies of yours,” Yunho grinned when he heard the other grumble loudly into the phone. He could picture Changmin moaning and rolling around in bed.

“I always dread your morning calls, hyung. You are too punctual, as usual.”

“Your babies dread yours more, for ruining their beauty sleep. They apparently need more hours of sleep than us normal people.”

“I’m normal, you’re not!”

“Yeah, yeah say whatever you like. I need a shower now… It takes a hell lot more time and effort to get Mr. Kim out of bed.”

Changmin chuckled, aware of how difficult the task was after having to do it once himself, “Good luck to you, hyung. Maybe he won’t fling his pillow at you this time.”

Yunho took his first step out of the shower to hear the doorbell’s dingdong ring a few times. He shouted, “Coming!” to nobody in particular and hurried to dry his body before slipping on a comfortable worn shirt. Who can it be at this hour? The bell stopped ringing, pressuring Yunho to move even faster. He stumbled a little when he put on a pair of track pants and walked out of the toilet at the same time, then reaching for the brass doorknob, hoping whomever out there was not too impatient.

He opened the door, welcoming no one but the dimly lit corridor. His eyebrows twitched towards each other, suspecting a prank to pop out from somewhere. Nothing happened, and he scanned the place though he truly had no idea what to look for. Then his eyes dropped down to the doormat just inches away from his feet, and he found an old-fashioned basket.

A baby was left on his doorstep, staring up at Yunho curiously with wide, innocent eyes that resembled his own.
