First things first, happy birthday to the lovely
sunsetdawn20! I hope her special day is fantastic.
Now, I promised pictures from our recent trip, so here they are! Put on your SPOOKYVISION goggles!
The first stop on the ghost tour was the Jennie Wade House. For those of you that don't know your American Civil War, particularly Gettysburg, history, Jennie Wade was the only civilian killed in the battle of Gettysburg. She was shot by stray bullet from a Confederate sharpshooter who was staked out in the attic of the Farnsworth House. Apparently, the day she was shot, she sealed her own fate by saying something creepy like "If anyone dies today, I hope it's me" because her sister had just had a baby. I actually didn't take any pictures of the house because a separate tour was -inside- the house, complete with SPOOKY camera flashes XD.
Next stop is the house below. Can't remember the names, but, I do remember the story!
Oh, so very scary XD.
This house used to be an orphanage. Not directly involved with the Civil War, but terrible things went on in this house. The matron of the house had never been that fond of children, but she learned that the State paid money for children in the orphange without any real investigation into the circumstances of the children. The children in her orphanage were severely abused, and many of them died from various causing, ranging from neglect to what could have been murder. To this day, there are stories of ghostly children leading people both into the house and into the nearby cemetery.
The next stop was actually on the edge of the battlefield (which is very closely monitored--you cannot set foot on battlefield property after ten p.m.), where the tour guide (who was named 'Moose', btw...*ahem*) told a very creepy story about a woman who came to Gettysburg for the first time after reading a book about the Civil War and becoming interested. She and her husband were in the very area we were on a dusky evening, and she saw a staggering Confederate soldier, and rushed up to the hill, because she thought it was a reenactment. She could hear the soldier crying out, begging someone: "Help me! Help me!" She called to her husband to hurry, but when he got there, the soldier had vanished. She freaked out. They left Gettysburg because she was so freaked out. Later, back at work, some woman told her that the soldier was just asking for her help. Woman felt bad. Went back to Gettysburg. Another dusky evening. Soldier appears, crying out. She screams back at the apparition, "I don't even know who you are? What do you want from me??" The soldier simply said a name and vanished. (I can't remember the name...I think it was Tobias something...so he's going to be Tobias in my story XD). Woman goes to archives. Finds the name Tobias and he was listed as missing, presumed dead. Goes back to Gettysburg. Leaves a wreath, says a prayer for Tobias. Sees a Confederate soldier in full dress uniform salute her and vanish. But, the woman doesn't leave it there. She decides she needs to let his family know what happened to him. So she starts doing some research and discovers Tobias had three descendants in this generation. Two were deceased, and the third name was hers.
SO I totally got chills when 'Moose' finished his story. Combined with the fact that a weed brushed the back of my leg at that exact moment and I almost peed myself XD.
Took a picture of the battlefield and got what is apparently 'orbs' in the bottom left hand corner. Three small translucent circles.
Moving on to the Grove, which apparently one of the most haunted areas, which is right behind the football field of the middle school...(the same stadium which was used in the filming of Remember the Titans for any movie buffs XD). The reason this area is allegedly so haunted is because there were mass Confederate graves here, and in fact, in the big ridge right behind the football field, there are still countless numbers of Conferederate soldiers buried there. (CREEPY! Seriously fucking creepy). Took a few pictures--look at all the pretty orbs!
This tree is one of the three remaining "Witness Trees" in Gettysburg--trees that witnessed the battle. At some point, people actually carved the bullets out of them so that they would survive, since the bullets were made from lead and the trees would have died from lead poisoning.
Okay, now for the last picture, which has a bit of a story...'Moose' was telling us all about this time when he first started, and he was actually on a tour as an observer, not a guide, when this lady kept taking pictures of him when they were at the Grove. It kinda freaked him out, but then she showed him the picture and there was this red aura-looking thing around him. Well, as they started to leave, she kept taking pictures of him and as they were walking out of the Grove, it looked like the red light was following him, and the last one looked like a hand reaching towards him.
As he was telling this story, I took a picture of a tree and the Grove. This picture:
If you notice, there is a red light/glow on the right hand side--right where he was standing. As soon as he finished telling his story, and describing the red glow, I said "Like this?" and showed him this picture, and he said "Exactly like that...and we're leaving now." XD. OOOOH SPOOKY! XD.
We went back to the Farnsworth House and hung out in the attic for a while, listened to more ghost stories, and, all-in-all, had a great time. They're very cheesy, but I would recommend going on one of these types of tours somewhere just for fun, regardless of if you believe all of it or not.
