Below: the proper Gmex write-up, complete with pictures and random squeeage.
Be prepared for much Red Dwarf and Jason Momoa fangirling!
Saturday:
Got up at just before 4.30 am, suitcase already packed, and got dropped off at the trainstation an hour later as I needed to catch the 5.55am train to Manchester.
I checked my phone, and found a message from Janine, telling me Jason Manns was playing an extra gig in manchester that night. Cue happy Sammy :-)
Got to manchester, dropped my suitcase off at the hotel and joined the queue at Gmex. The doors took for ever to open (as they always seem to do when it's cold and wet and there's pretties waiting to be molested inside...)
After we got in and I'd grabbed my tickets for talks and such, I did some browsing of the stalls and went to have some breakfast to psyche myself up.
Having learned my lesson from Gmex 1 and making a beeline straight for katee the instant the queues opened, I decided this time to go for someone that had a little less effect on my hormones first. So, I joined David Nykl's queue (Zelenka in SG Atlantis).
Unfortunately for me, Claudia Christian (Ivanova in BSG) happened to be right beside him, and against my better judgement I left David's queue and hopped to the front of hers instead...
Now Claudia might not have much effect on my hormones, but she's Ivanova! being as completely barmy about B5 as I am, means that when face to face with any of the cast, all powers of speech pretty much go straight out of the window. again. Still, I managed to recover and we had a great chat about the show amongst other things. She's really funny and very warm and friendly. ♥
Next I went back to david Nykl, and was lucky enough for his queue to be empty after me. This meant we got to talk for quite some time :-)
Mostly we agreed that Zelenka was not allowed to be killed off, and we sulked together about them getting rid of Paul McGillion (Carson in SGA). Apparently poor Paul had no idea it was coming until they handed him the script and he read it in there.
A pretty shitty thing to do if you ask me! But I mentioned that the Stargate universe had a habit of bringing people back to life (after all, how many times has Daniel died now exactly? lol), so maybe there is hope. david said he would start badgering the powers that be on the fans behalf, lol. ♥
After that, my inner fangirl would not be contained a moment longer, and before I knew what I was doing I was face to face with Chris Barrie. CHRIS BARRIE! Rimmer! So there I was with a bemused look on my face, trying to not start singing the rimmer munchkin song, lol!
Chris was awesome though! He brought up the red dwarf movie, and I told him that as soon as i'd won the lottery, I'd fund the damn thing myself. he thought it was a great idea... We actually came up with several ideas concerning fundraising, and he's taking them to Rob (Grant, the RD creator) sometime this week :-)♥♥
Craig Charles. finding myself standing next to Craig Charles (Lister, red dwarf) was quite possibly one of the most surreal experiences of my entire life. Out of all the people I'd been hoping to meet I never thought I'd get the chance to meet Craig. We chatted for about 10 minutes, but I can't for the life of me remember any of it! I was just standing there thinking "DUDE! I'm talking to Lister" the whole time, lol! ♥♥
And my final guest for the day... Jason Momoa (Ronon on SGA).
OMG! He's pretty damn hot on the show. I mean HOT! Well, it's nothing compared to how he looks in real life! And the glasses! *wibbles*
Anyway, after rolling my tongue back into my mouth and wiping away the drool, I asked him about the hair. (Cue jack Sparrow impression: "But why is all the hair gone!") Apparently, the dreads he sported before were so heavy (especially when wet), that he used to give himself whiplash during fight scenes. Poor baby :-) ♥♥♥♥♥
All I can say is Lisa Bonet is one very lucky lady...
I went to two talks that day: Red dwarf and Atlantis.
The Red Dwarf was hilarious! Chris and Craig were bickering back and forth at each other like they did on the show and pretty much had us in stitches. Highlights were their descriptions of their snog on RD ("Well, first I tried not to think about it, but my mind kept telling me 'my tongue is touching Craig's' EWW!. But after a while we really got into it") and:
Craig: (made some comment about Chris's grey hair)
Chris: Look, I thought we'd agreed. You don't mention the grey, I don't mention the chubby.
*sporfle*
Oh, and then there was Craig's attempts to get Chris to admit he'd snogged Angelina Jolie on the set of Tombraider :-)♥♥
As for the Atlantis talk? Jason and David were both very funny, and had some great stories to tell.
unfortunately Jason didn't show off his "other" tattoo (which just happens to run down his leg and... other... areas.), but at least the topic left loads of room for innuendo on their part :-) ♥♥♥
Finally I got my studio picture taken with Chris and craig, and then went back to the hotel to get changed.
Jason's (Manns, the other one, lol) gig that night was awesome! And much fun (and beer!) was had by all. (and some of us had more beer than others... *cough*)
He played my favourites, so I was pleased no matter what, lol, and a whole lot more besides. I also managed to snag the second cd while I was there, so WOOT!
I somehow made it back to the hotel at silly o'clock in the morning :-S
The next day I was - as seems to be usual for me at conventions - still a teensy bit drunk, tired and pretty much blase about the whole thing.
Maybe I should start leaving meeting the pretties until the second day after a skinfull, but that course of action would require patience...
So, I met Hattie Hayridge (female holly/hilly on RD), who was sweet and perky, and Torri Higginson (dr Weir on SGA), who was incredibly girlie and bubbly and looked about 10 years younger than she does on the show!
I also went to Tori's talk, which was fun, and Claudia Christian's which was fantastic.
She talked about anything and everything, including the late Richard Biggs and Andreas Katsulas. It was a bit of a change in tone from the rest of the convention, but very moving and very much appreciated by the fans. ♥♥♥
I got my picture taken with Claudia, and - last but in no way least! - with Jason! :-)
oh man! that boy gives the best hugs! Since then I've pretty much not stopped smiling :-) ♥♥♥♥♥
Anyway, I think I've blathered on long enough... so here's the photos I took:

And tomorrow I'm going to see if I can't hunt down a scanner at uni... because if I can I will be scanning in my studio pics (including those from asylum...).
And now I will finishing boring you all and am going to watch me some Atlantis, and then I shall write ;-)
