I think your romanticizing die hard a bit too much. That was a very cheesy movie, but it was good fun. I can't really say that its any better then chronicles of riddick in some ways. I will agree that with a movie like Chronicles of Riddick you have a lot of cgi and special effects that draw you away from a story, but I don't think the story is any better or worse then the original die hard movie.

I am looking forward to the new movie though.

What I like about the original Die Hard, and the third one, is that the motivations of the main antagonists were not so straightforward. There were always twists to their plans that completely changed the main conflict.

In most action films today, the villains are bland, cookie-cutter cut outs who show little to no depth of character, not to mention a lack of creativity. Their intentions and motivations are way to clearly defined to allow for any mystery or intrigue.

I guess I don't like having it all spelled out for me at the very beginning, which is what I feel most action movies are guilty of today.

Good point. I'll definitely agree with that. Part 3 did kick ass, but it also had Sam Jackson which helped a lot :-)
