Maybe God does hate Ireland

The Westboro Baptists were big in the news last year with their 'God Hates Ireland' website (homosexuals in the Senate apparently = major smiting). But in the space of twelve months we have had our economy devastated, our football team denied a chance to go to the World cup because of a handball that makes Maradonna's 'Hand of God' look the picture ( Read more... )

Phelps pretty much hates everybody, and thus Westboro's "God hates X" is effectively only constrained by the rate at which he's able to buy up the domain names for each "X", and get another fifteen minutes of infamy out of it. The details of the Six Degrees of Separation from Teh Gayness are almost besides the point. I propose a "natural experiment" in which we pay him as little attention as possible until he dies off (to be congratulated by his Maker, reprimanded by Same, or void-due-to-nonexistence-thereof, as applicable), and thereafter see if his poisonous little clan manages to keep up the same horrific bile for long without him.

I was feeling a little exposed to the wild and windy moor up here on the hill for the last couple of nights, especially sitting right next to a south-facing french window, but looking at the fate of the poor lowlands, I'm retrospectively considering myself well off. Hopefully the roundabout is still navigable to vehicles with a low (pedal) axis!

Hopefully the roundabout is still navigable to vehicles with a low (pedal) axis! *?!* Have you been out at all lately? I'd say you need to get out more but, um, possibly not today. On Thursday you could have got across the roundabout using the bridge but the little river had burst its banks completely and yesterday the Sarsfield roundabout started the day completely closed. Don't know about now but hey, just for a change, it is raining and stormy.

OK, strictly speaking I should have said "again", rather than "still", as I had indeed been informed (by sources close to yourself) that it had been flooded at various points.

Thanks for the link! Bookmarked for when there is less, uh, ambient noise around here.

Most of the pictures are stills so noise less a factor. This is RTE here, their online 'print' news is much easier to find and access than their online TV reports. It is the Irish way to do things bass ackward if at all possible.
