Question 23: How long does it usually take you to complete an entire story-from planning to writing to posting (if you post your work)?
There is no usually. It's a combination of 2 things: if the muse sings to me, and if I'm in a writing mood.
If things are good, I've written a (really short) ficlet in 30 minutes (from idea to post).
The longest I've worked on a story was nearly 2 years, on an original fic, nearly 350 pages long.
Question 24: How willing are you to kill your characters if the plot so demands it? What’s the most interesting way you’ve killed someone?
Oh, I have no problem with it.
If it shocks the reader, if it serves the plot, I'm game (as long as we're talking original fic).
I killed a bunch of characters in my last story; land mine, suicide, jumping onto oncoming traffic, death at childbirth... Sucks to be a soldier in a war that's not your own...
But my favorite? I had a story where the main character finally realized that a dream he's been having all his life isn't really a dream but memories of when he was really little. He finally figured out everything, his whole life suddenly becoming clear.
He was the good guy, just realized he was supposed to be the ruler of the land, and went up against the evol guy who took his place. They killed each other, and that's how the story ended.
I had a friend actually hit me over it. *g*
