Chris stared at Zach, blinked and jerked back.
"Zachary no! I won't do it. Please don't ask that of me"
"That's my deal, you-"
"Alright little brother! You gonna kill him or what?" Joe's voice boomed from behind them, holding the silver chain Zach had dropped
"Not like this. I want him to suffer horribly. I'm going to bring him to The Drop off. Make him see his last sunrise" Zach said, his voice free of any emotion.
"I have never thought of that!" Joe said cheerfully, slapping his younger brother on the shoulder "Your a genius, Zach. Let's go"
"Not us. Me. I need to do this alone Joe, but I will keep this" Zach explained, holding up the silver spike
Zach grabed Chris by the jacket and pulled him towards the Porsche.
"Keys" He said flatly.
Chris slowly handed Zach the keys and was roughly shoved into the passenger seat by Joe
"Nice knowing you asshole" He hissed
Zach got into the other side, started the car and took off out of the cemetery.
The ride to The Drop off was quiet, to quiet for either boys. Chris couldn't believer what Zachary was asking of him
Why would be want to be like him? Chris would give anything to be human again, even for a day.
The Drop Off parking lot was black and deserted, as the Porsche pulled into the lot.
Zach exited the car and went around to open Chris's door
Chris steped out of the Porche and faced Zach
"Look Zach, about your offer" Chris started, leaning back
"It still stands, Chris. I want to be with you" Zach said
"All I am asking from you, is that you give me a year. I need to get myself ready. I've...never turned anyone before, it's not as easy as people think it is. I need to talk to someone
"Where are you going? I'll come with you"
"No. You can't. I need to do this alone. I'm going to disappear for a while. Please don't try to find me. Live your life, Zachary. If this is really your choice, then I want you to have every human experience you can"
Zach's shoulders sagged, knowing he had lost.
"Oh. Another thing, When Vampires die, there is always alot of blood. Here, let me help" Chris brought his wrist upto his mouth and took a bite of his own flesh, making Zach close his eyes. Red blood poured to the surface.
"Ready?" Chris asked
Zach nodded. He felt warm blood splatter on his face, neck and arms. He felt large drops hit his t-shirt and soak in.
"Ok,good enough" Chris said
Zach opened his eyes, and found himself looking right into Chris's clear blue eyes
His eyes trailed down Chris's face. He had never noticed the scars on his face. He found himself wanting to reach out and touch the vampire's face. But he held back.
Instead is was Chris who leaned forward and kissed Zach softly. Zach pushed in and wrapped his arms around Chris's shoulders.
Chris moaned and pulled away, leaning his forehead against Zach's
"I will be back"
"You better be. I'll be waiting. Do you want your car back?" Zach asked
Chris laughed. "Nah. You can keep it"
Zach watched Chris walk in the dense forest on the other side of the parking lot and vanish from sight.
Getting back into the Porsche, he turned on the engine and flipped on the radio.
And it may take some time to
Patch me up inside
But i can't take it so i
Run away and hide
And i may find in time that
You were always right
You're always right

ONE YEAR LATER
Chris pulled upto Zach's house and killed the engine. He sighed and opened the car door.
He was been rehearsing what he was going to say over and over in his head. It still sounded all wrong
Heading up the front steps seem to take forever.
He raised his fist and knocked on the familiar front door
"Hang on!" Zach said from the other side of the door. Swinging the door open, Chris watched Zach's face go from excited to shocked in seconds.
"Chris?" He stuttered
"Hello Zachary" He mumbled
"Oh! Um...come in" Zach said moving aside to let Chris inside the house
"Thank you. Your looking well" Chris said stepping into the brightly lit house
"You too"
"Were you expecting someone else?" Chris asked
"Yeah..." Zach sighed "I meet someone a few months after you left. He's a nice mortal guy"
Chris smiled sadly
"Oh Chris, I'm sorry. He understands me you know..." Zach said taking a slow step forward
"No it's fine. I understand. Look. Think about what you want. I'll be in town for the next couple days. Why don't you meet me for 11 tomorrow night, at my parents gravestone. I'll wait for an hour"
Zach nodded and opened the door for Chris.
As Chris steped out in the darkness, a silver car pulled up behind his. A young, dark haired man got out. As they passed each other on the walkway, Chris got a sudden chill up his spine. He hadn't felt that in over 60 years.
He hoped that Zach showed up. Even if it was just to talk.
