Nay, Richard, fret not. Thine acknowledgement was delivered with utmost grace, and has been recieved with humblest of thanks. I beg that, should the fancy strike you, you may perhaps stoop to murmur your eloquant susurrations into my unworthy throbbing heart once more, o gentlest of friends.

I feel strange about taking pictures. I see things all day that I want to take pictures of, but I don't. It just seems so wrong in this context. For example, I saw a food stand yesterday called "Don't Mind Your Wife Rice" (next to a crude painting of what seemed to be Minnie Mouse wearing a gas mask; weird approximations of Disney characters are painted on walls and signs all over the damn country), a transmission repair place called "Psycho motors", a cell phone shop called "I Can't Tell Communications Center"...but if i take pictures, it seems like i'm just being the tourist that they all expect me to be in the first place. "Oh honey, look at THIS one. Those Ghanaians are just SUCH funny little people. Can you imagine? Beastly place, but with such FABULOUS people and DARLING children. So friendly! Incidentally, dear, what do you think about this pedicure? I say, the houseboy really did a sloppy job this time, mmm? "
I'm looking for digital pictures, though. I'll find them.

I had the same feeling-awkward-taking-pictures thing when I went to Bolivia, not just for the obvious display of wealth but also for the feeling that I wasn't taking the place seriously (the exact sentiment that your sarcastic dialogue captured well). Anyway, I eventually got over it. I'm so obviously a foreigner, and as such you are expected to play the role of tourist, and that bothered but at first but with time I realized: I will never really fit in and understand this place. I can take away what I think might be a unique perspective or try to look at things in a more profund, inquisitive way...but I'm not, in this society, any different than some stupid fuck from LA who doesn't know Sucre from Singapore. And so I just kind of realized that, in my case at least, you just gotta be a fucking tourist sometimes, man.
But I'm a gringo, and that was Notoriously Hostile or at least Really Cold (in all senses) Bolivia. You would probably have the same "chino" experience there, though, or for that matter, even here in BsAs.

Where in the world have you been all my life?!... Besides Economic History of Africa class. I am desperate to know how Hendrix is faring without my too-often vocal contributions to class and astute analyses of course materials (could this chick be any more self-absorbed?). And I want to know if you've started that college community discourse project, which I gather is too much time and work, but worth it if we're going to make Hendrix a good school from which to have a degree. I know you don't want your site to become a Hendrix gossip mill, but will someone PLEASE tell me if what I heard is true ... that Matt Beachboard and his girlie went as Alex Ross and Me for halloween last year. That's really trippy if it's true, but hey, at least someone recognized our emminent style and sophistication during our short tenure on campus. P.S. Alex is doing well; he's in Santa Fe and has abandoned his previous, more worldly aspirations (of becoming an independently wealthy mamma's boy) for a stellar, respectable career in publishing and haute

p.s. I don't have anything meaningful to say, but did wish to acknowledge my acknowledgement of your digital literary endeavour. Kudos!
p.p.s I sound like a pompous jackass in the above sentence. That was intended to be humorous.
