Endless Eternity
My heart continues to beat fast even now as I wait. It only lasted two minutes, but your expression with eyes and mouth wide open and your body jerking on the ground was etched forever in my mind. Next to me, I feel tears damping my shirt as the person sitting next to me crying from the shock of seeing the sight for the first time. It’s my first time, too, but I force myself to stay calm because you wouldn’t want to see me cry.
It started like any ordinary day. It was a half an hour before practicing. We were warming up side by side as usual. We continued talking about what happened in school today and wondering what we were going to do in practice. Suddenly, you fell over and started jerking rapidly. I screamed your name and the other regulars rushed over to help. A non-regular was already sent to get the nurse. I helped them push you on your side and stuffed the sleeve of my jacket into your mouth. The seizure only lasted for two minutes, but it was enough to send us into a shock.
I heard the sirens of an ambulance approaching. A bunch of paramedics rushed over and began lifting you onto the stretcher. All of us could only watch, as you were loaded into the ambulance with the lights flashing on the vehicle. The coach announced that practice was cancelled. The others began walking back to the locker room to change back, but I could only watch as the ambulance drove away the sirens blaring for cars to move.
I remember seeing this on TV where paramedics are rushing to save someone who was having a seizure like you, or was hit by a car, but this was nothing like what was on TV. This was cruel reality. So, as I watch you rush away in an ambulance, I utter these words to you:
Attack strongly. Do your best.
