Dear 30 Rock...

Dear 30 Rock,

First of all, I would like to thoroughly congratulate you on being renewed for a 6th season. None of us, and by us I include you too, thought that you would make it this far. Though what makes that statement funny is the serious absurdity of it. Of course you would make it this far, because from the get-go you were an absolutely ( Read more... )

OMG I'm so with you on this.
What has happened to this poor show?

It still makes me laugh more than anything else on TV, and it is still arguably the best comedy on TV....
but Jack and Liz (together and apart) are just....caricatures of their former selves.

*frowns*

Yeah, therein lies the confliction. I absolutely love this show to death, it still makes me laugh and it's still one of the only things that helps me through the week, but it's not what it once was.

Thanks for listening to my ramblings =)

Needless to say, I agree and I am depressed that I agree. These characters have slipped, the writing is so inferior to what it was initially, and even without a Jack/Liz resolution I expected MUCH better fates for these characters.

Now, I get it, I get why they don't belong together, because these weren't the characters we loved, not the ones we absolutely fell in love with.

Exactly. Jack doesn't deserve Liz now and Liz is just a joke, a not a good one either. The characters as they are now cannot possibly create something worth watching and especially not something to rival or even equal what went before.

If this is a very long, and cleverly played out joke designed to last two seasons (from the beginning of season four) reflecting the bitter irony of real life and how nothing ever seems to work out like it should be, then well done, you've got me. But honestly, deliver the punch line already, because drawing a joke out like that for this long has built up too much tension, and is honestly starting to feel uncomfortable. From what ( ... )

Well this is about a week too late for a response, but I was out of town =D.

What's weird is, I honestly didn't even notice the transition of Liz's character. Both versions of Liz make me laugh, but it wasn't until I watched Season 1 recently that it made me go "Good God, am I watching 30 Rock?" Liz was so radically different, independent, still funny, but in a smart way and ultimately why I fell in love with this show. Ultimately it made me rethink how I am going to write her character from now on.

I don't really know what they're thinking currently, but I only hope they realize how vastly inferior the show is now to what it once was. They seemed to back off of the 'Liz is gross' jokes just a little bit, so here's hoping they'll listen to the fans again. Then again, if it's only coming from a few long-time, bitter fans like us, I doubt it'll go very far.

I love 30 Rock, because it is one of the only remaining intelligent television shows. I watch only 30 Rock and West Wing. However, I miss season one and two. In S1 and S2, Liz was made fun of, but not to the extent to which she became a ridiculous caricature of her old self. Not only did they completely desexualize Liz (making fun of her eating habits, dressing habits, and sexual history) to make her completely unrelatable, but they also insulted her intelligence in S4. I'm sick of the romance plots that eclipsed the S4 finale ( ... )

No, no, your long comment is fantastic! I'm a pretty recent 30 Rock convert and I'm glad I stumbled upon your blog. Why are you resigned to the fact that Jack and Liz will never get together? I mean, I know Avery is pregnant, but this is a comedy show... Thanks for responding to my comment!

Oh! Well then! Let me be the first to officially welcome you to the community =). I can't personally vouch for everyone here, I've only had a livejournal for about a year, but I love this group. Jack/Liz writers are few and far between, but we're dedicated ( ... )

I so totally agree with what you wrote. I got the 3rd and 4th seasons for Christmas, and even though I'm only on the 2nd disc of the 4th season (even though I've seen the majority of the eps of that season, but just for the sake of rewatching them), I'm starting to see a change that just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I mean, when I watch the current season, it isn't as bad. Sure, maybe it's because I haven't written a Jack/Liz fic in years (since season 2) or maybe it's because Avery seems okay to me, and is kinda like an odd fusion of CC and Elisa.Being that the both of those relationships ended, I'm hoping that will happen the same with Avery. I mean, I'm a House fan, and moreover, I'm a House/Wilson fan, so I'm used to shows ruining something that was incredible (like the House/Wilson fandom) and replacing it with something that's just gross ie House/Cuddy (no offense if anyone likes that pairing, btw :D). However, much like House, Jack can't keep a relationship because like House, Jack is flawed, whether or not he sees it. ( ... )
