I saw on youtube one day that a bunch of Harry Potter fans out there have started to make it a hobby to buy wooden dowels ,or just find wood anywhere thy can, and use a dremel tool to make wands. The basic idea sounded pretty dang cool (and a whole lot easier than an exacto knife and sandpaper). So i got out the dremmel and went to work (because it ( Read more... )

wow that looks really good. I think having it be hand made gives it more character. It definitely separates it from the mass produced licensed ones.

i'm not so sure about the added power, so far the only thing i've been able to do is move my dog out of the way... and that took me prodding him in the side with it a little :D.

I understand. I had a branch i got off of the tree becaue i was going to make an attempt at the Bellatrix wand. So i left it on my 'craft table' to dry out so it wouldn't get the dremel bits sticky when i started, and my spaz of a dog figured that it was a game of 'keep away'. So for right now the bellatrix wand is off until i can find more curved wood.

Very nice. Mr. Olivander would be envious. Could you do a step-by-step tutorial perhaps? Or just list steps from shaping to staining?

Sure. I go on fall break on monday and I'll be sure to take loads of pictures and video on how I make them.

I ran out of stain acutally. I just squirted some of the paint I had from the craft departmet at walmart on an old rag and rubbed it on the wood. Then instead of polyeurathan to finish it off and protect it i rubbed a white candle stub all over the wand and rubbed the wax into the wood.

and the wood wasn't the typical white colored dowels you find a walmart in the craft section. These were some kinda of pinkish/brownish colored dowels that are a biotch to cut with an exacto knife. I'll put a couple different ideas on the tutorial about how i stain/paint wood. Because I honestly just mix stuff together and test it out until I find something that I like.
