Lamentation of a freelancer

I'm not what you call a 9 to 5er.  I don't have an office that I go to, I don't clock in anywhere, and weekends mean as much to me as tuesday.  The downside to this, of course, is that my income is far less than what is considered desirable.  In fact, the words "unhealthy" "insane" and "sweating bullets" have all been used to describe my livelihood ( Read more... )

Thanks to the internet, while there is still a sucker born every minute, there is a scam born every nano-second.

Speaking of scamming people into doing something for no wage, will you be one of my groomsmen?

Only if you provide me with a video of my service and recommend me to one of your high profile friends when the job is complete.

Oh and don't worry. Soon your money troubles will be over. I have an anvil trap waiting outside of Sean Astin's house.

So which do you think is worse? Those who take advantage of freelancers or those freelancers who allow themselves to be taken advantage of?

That is a scary concepts, especially when you think of all the people moving to NYC with dreams of making it big and because of these scams get nowhere and in debt.

The last time I visited New York was about 6 years ago, I was walking around Broadway street and I remember a girl posing with arms open and a wide smile (as if to say, I'm here New York!) under a street sign while a friend took the picture. I'm not sure if that girl was a tourist or had just moved, but she reminded me of all the people who move there to try and make it big, but who might be too naive to get to where they need to be and end up being crushed by the scams.

I've never been worried about you though. You're extremely intelligent, and like you said, can see through the bullshit.

I look for medical research study opportunities on CL sometimes.

So far, they've been good, but I'm worried about the more extensive ones being scams. I don't want to go through weeks of trips to doctor's offices only to tell me near the end that I didn't qualify.
