3d movies are starting to annoy me a little. The glasses make my eyes hurt, probably because I spend a lot of time focusing on subtitles and they are too close and my eyes are not used to focusing to that distance or something. In that time and age, even despite the hotness, the dimwit would've been a great catch for Alice. But yes, it'd be easier for modern day movie-going chicks to really get the significance of Alice's choice if the guy was hot. (Did I just say you're a movie-going chick? Maybe!)

Alice in the armour, mega-hot. Like, seriously.

Chocolate Factory was better, yeah. Not least because of the major screentime of Johnny in a role that had depth in addition to crazy.

Well, yes, in that day and age he would have been a catch, but as you say, that doesn't really translate well to the modern viewer whose gut reactions are entirely different. Emotionally I still felt he was never a serious choice, even if my brain informed me otherwise.
