Ugghhh. I tripped over my own clumsy feet and took a hard fall on my right arm, which now hurts like a bitch. If it was broken, I wouldn't be able to move it, right? So maybe it's just a sprain. Either way, ow, ow, ow. Even a masochist like me can't enjoy this. I'd go to the ER, but I have work this afternoon (not to mention dinner plans with ( Read more... )

More details on how you fell and where it hurts?

x__x Jogging on completely flat pavement. I got momentarily distracted and... tripped over my own feet. I guess this head cold has really screwed up my balance.

Uh, the elbow hurts? I can extend/bend it partially but it's starting to get sorer now after a couple of hours of keeping it still. Nothing particularly hurts when I poke it and it's not swelling up.

This might be hard for you to understand because of the jargon, but you can do most of this examination on yourself. It looks for everything that is not a fracture. 'Passive' range of motion means you let the arm relax and use the other hand to move the hurt arm around not using its own muscles. Pronation means turn the hand to face down, supinate is turning it to face up. The epicondyles are the bony parts that stick out (thin people) or make dimples (fat people) on the inside & outside of the elbow, not at the main point on the back of the joint.

I think you'd be prudent to get an x-ray, though since you say there's no swelling I doubt its anything serious. Is there any evidence of dislocation?

Did you land on your outstretched straight arm, impacting your hand, or was your arm bent? Did your elbow itself hit the pavement?
