From two months ago, the cost of rice has doubled from ~$10 to ~$20. At the Galleria Market in Northridge, posted were signs limiting the purchase of rice to 1 bag per family. Over the years, I amassed but did not use up transit passes from the DC Metro, Chicago's CTA, and San Francisco's BART. I am not sure whether the DC Metro card is still valid but it has $7.80 remaining. The CTA Transit Card is still valid - through January 15, 2009 - although I've no idea how much remains.
