You can have a look at All my darling daughters by Fumi Yoshinaga. It's a sweet collection of oneshots and one of them is precisely about omiai. It gives some interesting information although I'm not sure it's the period you're looking for, it may be too modern. In case you can't find it online, I can try to translate it from French since I own a copy n_n
