Caprica - 1x07 - The Imperfections of Memory
Didn't actually do any kind of thoughts on Caprica last week, simply because I wasn't feeling the episode quite as much. I've been doing a re-watch of BSG's first season this week too, which is always fun. I just saw the torture-Leoben episode where he first does the "ADAMA'S A CYLON" to freak Laura out. More thoughts on that maybe later ;)
So.
Previously on Caprica. Daniel's rival got nasty. Tamara is STILL in New Cap City, Joe is still failing at finding her. (btw the scene where he first put on the holoband at his home last week was HILARIOUS, his face when he saw a copy of Daniel* was so funny) bb Tammy is kicking ass, which is a slightly terrifying thing considering how waif-like she is. Joe got Evelyn (future Mrs Adama) to find out who Tad was. Lacy is going to help Zoe, Zoe bitched (but truthfully) that Lacy's already chickened out. James Marsters didn't live up to the hype, but there's more to come. Zoe flirted with Philo, and omg Zoe/Philo forever. Daniel said that the cylon had a brilliant mind inside, Zoe smiled like she'd never had her daddy be proud of her before. Clarice Willow stole stuff from Daniel's computer, naughty naughty woman. (I LOVE how good she is at manipulating everyone.)
Amanda Graystone is having nightmares.
The avatar programme was on Daniel's computer. The guy tells Clarice that it was there but it was downloaded somewhere. Clarice is creepy and says she'll offer a shoulder to cry on.
They're taking down the memorials to the dead, relocating. Amanda freaks out, naturally. Everyone looks at her like she's crazy, which she obviously is. Because remember, she publicly claimed that her daughter was responsible. Which isn't the smartest of moves.
Clarice is all comforting. Amanda says she saw someone, the man from her nightmares? idk. okay, apparently it was her brother.
sign #3984586 that Amanda is losing it.
ZOE! Going into the v-world again. She's wearing the most awesome glittery dress ever. She meets Zoe, and tells Lacy that sister Clarice was being creepy and snooping. Lacy hesitates when Zoe tells her about moving, because Barnabus isn't helping. Zoe tells her she's doing her part, and OUCH, she says that she's got another date with Philo...
"Do you like him?" Lacy asks.
"It's not relevant." Zoe says, a little irritable.
I CAN'T WORK OUT IF THAT MEANS SHE DOES or if she's just manipulating him like she did Lacy. OH MAN THAT STUNG A LITTLE. But then he did call him cute. So maybe it's a conflict of interests.
I'm clinging to Zoe/Philo already, can you tell? ;)
Lacy lies, badly. Zoe isn't an idiot. Lacy says she's never let Zoe down. Zoe scoffs. Lacy reminds Zoe that she's Zoe-A, not Zoe-Original.
Tad! he's at work. And Joe is snooping in the alleyway. And he grabs him (please do that for me Joe?) and tells him to take him into New Cap City. Joe seems to be confusing Tamara-A with his dead daughter, while everything says that they're the same... they're not quite.
Opening titles. Which are STILL awesome.
(idk when I started writing these up so fully but I enjoy it. I wish I was snarky enough to write for TWOP. The Caprica/BSG reccapper is amazing though.)
Amanda's still crazy. Looking through blurry photos she took of the crowd. Cross ref with the thing on Serge's twitter that Amanda took loads of photos, and she's frustrated.
NEW CAP CITY. Joe asks how much further of this "new crap" and Tad scoffs. Ilu Joe, don't ever change. Joseph tells Tad that if Tamara said she's there, she'll be there. "She's smart, she's an Adama." ♥
Tad tells him not to die ;) and they enter the door through to New Cap City. Joseph thinks Tad needs a bigger gun haha.
Car crash on the street, right near where Amanda is. "Excuse me, I'm a doctor," a guy goes, and Amanda is distracted by the guy who might be her brother. Flashback to the nightmare scene where she's chasing him, and she's chasing him in real life too. Something significant about a bridge on a poster she ends up near. Idk. She takes the poster from the wall.
Clarice is wrapping a bottle. She's talking crazy, thinks that Amanda seeing people is a sign from God. Okay Clarice. Keep taking those crazy pills.
New Cap City. Joe "can't we just fly?" LMAO. Tad messes with him, it's brilliant. Then tells him. "What are you, an idiot? You can't fly, it's not a fantasy game." More shootings and stuff all around.
Joseph: "the rules here are the same as the real world?"
Tad: "yes."
Joseph: "that's no fun!"
House of Graystone. Clarice comes in, bringing the bottle of Scorpion ambrosia. Oooh. Amanda tells about her brother, who died in a car crash. She shows Clarice the poster with the bridge. "that's where it happened," she tells Clarice. So she chased the ghost of her brother through to where this poster was, with the exact same picture on. Oh my god Clarice hug her already, stop being so obvious with your other motives.
oh god. therapy, more talking. and drugs. That's what helped Amanda.
As if we didn't know that she couldn't deal with grief already, it got worse D:
She calls Clarice her friend.

Oooh I love this in Caprica, random tv clips. little bits like this really add to the show, just make this whole civilisation real on a new level. Like in the BSG miniseries when Baltar was being interviewed, and then he was watching the news reports blot out one by one as the nukes went off. Graystone Industries is in freefall. Holobands still being sold. C-Bucs STILL suck (they need Anders, obviously.) and Vergis is being a bitch. The MCP thing doesn't work, he tells Daniel. Daniel is freaked, but tries not to show it. But the stolen MCP works perfectly.
Obviously because it has Zoe.
Lacy bitches at.. I forgot his name. Cute STO guy. They're on the swings at the park. He says Barnabus won't help unless Lacy is STO. She's willing to do that for her friend.
Keon. That's his name ;)
He looks upset at the idea that she's so eager to be a terrorist. EVEN THOUGH HE IS. Hey Lacy, did you know HE MADE THE BOMB THAT KILLED YOUR BESTIE? But she smiles, says it'd be better with him, and kisses him on the cheek.
SHOW WHY DO YOU DO THIS TO ME. WHY WHY WHY WHY?!
(oh yeah, because you're bastards. No wonder Joss Whedon's a massive fan.)
He looks enthralled, obviously.
Back to Pyramid. C-Bucs still suck. Cyrus is worried, Daniel is over-confident. Cyrus is trying to convince him to sell the C-Bucs.
PHILO AND RACHEL ♥
he's choosing an activity for their date. NAWW. Flight simulation ♥ and Zoe follows him into the V-world.
They're flying Viper mark 1's I think, they look older than the 2's and easily older than the 7's. Rachel breaks the viper almost straight away haha, Philo yells at her to eject.
In New Cap City, stuff is still trying to kill Joseph and Tad. AND OH FRAK TAD HAS BEEN KILLED. Oh Tammy ;_; Back in the real world Tad yells at Joseph and tells him he's on his own now.
V-world. Zoe's on a rock, looking like she took a dive. And she's wearing her flight suit ;) Philo asks why she didn't set her avatar to be a great pilot. Zoe says it's because she wants to learn things, but V world pisses her off. Zoe goes on about extending life through v world. Hmm. She's geeky, he's smitten.
His response?
"I work with top secret military robots."
Her response?
"That's really hot."
♥ and they kiss and if she's just playing him completely I am going to cut a bitch. But I don't think she is, because Zoe-A is really a bit more naive even though she has that manipulation that original Zoe had down. I really don't want to be wrong, because the chemistry they have is just amazing.
Back to Pyramid. C-Bucs are STILL shit. Daniel arrives home, Amanda's watching the game. She gives him a "why are you back while it's still on look?" and then he tells her he hates to see them lose. He tells her about Vergis. Amanda: "I hope you told him to go frak himself." Ugh I love their relationship. I love it. They really, really love each other and even though all the crap that's happened they're still brilliant together. Daniel "Yes, dear"'s and says that Cyrus is telling him he has to sell. He spots the ambrosia bottle. She offers him some, says it was a gift. He tries some, oofs at the alcohol content, and gives Serge an order. Then he remembers, and asks who the ambrosia's from. "A friend," Amanda responds, and Daniel asks if he should be jealous. Again, I love their relationship. Amanda's not sure but Daniel's still smiling. Those little cracks on Amanda's surface are getting deeper, the pressure in her mind is too much. She goes for the pills.
Back to Zoe/Philo. Still kissing ♥ and Zoe is convincing him to do stuff with the Zoebot, but Philo has an idea. Zoe is hilariously transparent about getting the Zoebot out of the lab. But Philo's got it. I LOVE YOU PHILO. He's not a genius for nothing. His eyes light up with ideas, and he goes in to kiss her again.
Haha, another funny moment. In the real world, Philo is sitting back with his holoband on and kissing the air. Daniel enters and just looks mildly confused for a moment before going to his piano. He plays a quick run. It doesn't distract Philo making out with the air hahaha omg. He then plays some short, sharp chords and Philo flails and takes off the holoband. Possibly my favourite bit yet this episode.
Amanda is calling someone. I'm thinking Clarice. I'm right. Clarice is at "the Dive" which is so aptly named. Amanda says she's game. DON'T DO IT AMANDA.
Daniel is playing the re-harmonised version of the piano music from "Someone to Watch Over me" aka one of the best BSG episodes EVER. Philo flails and makes excuses. He's still adorable. A possible successor to Topher from Dollhouse in the adorable geek stakes. He tells Daniel he was on his break. Daniel bitches about their critical deadline. Philo has his idea. He tells Daniel that the reason they can't make copies is because there's a tiny bit about the Zoebot that's not digital. IT'S YOUR DAUGHTER, DANIEL. Daniel tells Philo to go home. And Daniel KNOWS. Somewhere in the back of Daniel's mind he KNOWS. Come on Daniel, you can do it. She's hiding from you.
Joseph Adama goes back to New Cap City. I really hope he finds Tamara by the end of the episode :/ but I didn't see Genevieve on the credits so maybe not. He calls her name. Someone's watching him.
Amanda and Clarice smoking stuff at The Dive. THIS IS NOT A GOOD IDEA YOU CRAZY GRAYSTONE. Clarice tells her to be careful. She gets out the letter she had at the start of the episode.
First mentioning of "All of this has happened before, all of this will happen again."
I love that Amanda being secular thinks it's a saying, when Kara Thrace correctly identified it as scriptures.
Amanda tells Clarice that she went crazy, and she went to a psych hospital when she was having trouble coping with reality. Three years after the accident that killed her brother.
Joseph is still struggling to find his way in the virtual world. Some woman grabs him and holds a knife to his throat. He pleads with her. Shot of her shoes and we know that it's the woman who was watching. Tad told her about him. She says she's going to be his guide in the v world. For a price.
The Dive. Amanda's laughing and she's crazy. She tells Clarice that she spent time chasing her dead brother down hallways. "Surviving is the punishment for leaving things left unsaid," Amanda quotes. She says how much she left unsaid and she wasted time, and then her brother died. And I think she's relating this to Zoe too. Clarice delves into monotheism, I don't think Amanda expected that. Silence from Amanda. "Which god?" she finally asks.
Clarice knows she's gone wrong.
New Cap City. Joseph tells the woman how much he has at stake.
Casa Graystone. Daniel is working, Caesar brings him a ball haha. he throws the ball and Caesar gets it and THEN LEAVES IT AT ZOE'S FEET just like he did with Daniel.
Oh man, "the dog knows" wasn't a joke.
Zoe freaks out a little, she's trying so hard to maintain this guise of the robot that everyone thinks she is. Caesar just pants at her like a very happy dog, naww. Daniel glances over. Zoe tries to silently shoo the dog, and Caesar starts to whine. She kicks the ball away. Daniel hasn't noticed KSDUJGBKSDJGHF. He ponders out loud that the MCP worked for him but not Vergis. Caesar BRINGS THE BALL BACK AND BARKS AT ZOEBOT. Daniel looks over, his first expression is "oh that dog" and THEN IS IT CLICKING IS IT CLICKING? Caesar barks and barks at the Zoebot. He stands, walks over, picks up the ball. Caesar is panting and grinning like a lunatic, it's totally cute. Happy dog is happy!
Daniel looks up, right into Zoebot's eyes. She looks back.
"Zoe," he says.
And end.
* WORDING UNINTENTIONAL but it does always make me wonder that the cylon we never saw on BSG was called Daniel.

More people need to watch this, it's honestly one of the best things I've ever seen on TV.
