Reintroducting Old Friends

Nikola glanced at he passenger and saw he had fallen asleep. He shook his head in disbelief. He had been the one to find him and he still couldn't believe this was real. He still wasn't sure, that's why he was headed to drop off his passenger at an old friend's. She's sort this out. DNA and abnormals were her specialty after all. She may even have ( Read more... )

Helen fought back a yawn. She had just flown back from London and, as much as she was used to travel back and forth from her first Sanctuary, she wasn’t getting used to the time difference. One would thought that a person would get used to it after 60+ years, but Helen wasn’t. She had yet to unpack. Everything was still to do and she felt tired. She looked at the clock in the corner of her computer screen. 3:00 PM. She was in for a long afternoon ( ... )

Nikola pulled up to the Sanctuary and was let through the gate. He nudged his passenger gently. "We're here."

The other man hissed in pain as he sat up. "How long was I asleep?" he mumbled.

"A couple hours," Nikola said, moving to get out. He shut his door and went to the passenger door to help the other man out.

Once out, he leaned heavily against Nikola, clearly exhausted. He wrapped an arm around his midsection as he moved, but gave Nikola a game smile. "Once more into the breach," he quipped.

Nikola chuckled. "Helen should be waiting for us," he said, leading him up the steps to the front door.

She was walking in circles; she knew it. Her friend had told her twenty minutes ago that the lab was ready if she needed it. Helen had thanked him rapidly, her mind focused on guessing who Nikola was talking about in his message. They didn’t have that much friends in common, let alone ‘old friends’. It was driving her mad, but, then, Nikola often did.

Henry called to tell her they were in. It was only a matter of seconds now. Time for them to get out of their car and climb up the stairs to the big wooden door at the front entrance of the Sanctuary.

The knock never came fast enough.

Helen ran rather than walked to answer it, even though she was already next to the door. She opened it and froze on the threshold, for the vision before her wasn’t one of the thousands she had imagined earlier. “Nikola?” she indirectly questioned the vampire, since she couldn’t bring herself to even name the other one. Her mind though knew only one man who resembled the person clutching his stomach and leaning on Nikola for support.

"Helen, I believe you already know Nigel Griffin," he said, helping Nigel through the doorway.

Nigel stood there, clad nothing in Nikola's overcoat. "Hello, Helen," he said softly.
