Awkward visit

It's been snowing off and on in the past week, making the sidewalks a treacherous mix of disgusting brown slush and slick ice. Due to working in his alternate's world, The Shadow's missed most of the bad weather, but he's taking the day to catch up on things in his own city. After last night's fight with Khan's men, followed by packing up the ( Read more... )

The apartment smells of tea, she's made a couple cups for herself already, and is letting another teapot brew in preparation for The Shadow.

Myra scans the unexpected part of the party at her door first and then looks at the rather nonplussed Shadow. She knows the young man well from the lobby, but this is the first time he's made a call to her door. The fact that he's trying to support The Shadow is doubly unexpected.

"Oh, jeeze! What happened?" She's quick to reach out and push the young man away from The Shadow, taking over, and addressing 'her uncle' before turning her head over her shoulder. "Thanks, I got him. If we need anything, I'll call you." She flashes a charming smile at the young man. "You okay?" Whether he leans on her or not, she'll keep up helping him into the apartment, at least to keep up appearances cause by whatever brought about the situation.

The Shadow makes a convincing enough limp as he's transferred between the younger folks, and there are damp stains from the slush on his pants.
The young man relinquishes him with a worried but polite smile. "I saw him go down on the ice out front. I'll let maintenance know they need to salt it again. You make sure he's okay, he wouldn't let me call an ambulance or anything..." He remains at the door, happy enough to pass off the job.

"Nothing broken, just bruised. I have strong bones." The Shadow gives the young man a cross between a smile and a grimace, an expression he's quick to drop once Myra sees the young man off.

"I'll make sure he's okay. Don't worry." She smiles, and once he leaves, she closes the door, locking it. She gives him a worried glance that lasts but a moment.

"Ya'lright Chief?" There's already two cups out on the counter, but she grabs a towel from beneath the sink and holds it out to him in case he wants to clean off some of the wet slush. "Sorry about that."

In a flash he has gone from a polite smile to a brooding scowl, and his posture has straightened noticeably. "I'm fine. I just... wasn't paying attention." He swats at his pants, then takes the proffered towel and finds it far more effective. Nothing seems to be torn or bleeding, but the ringing thump of the fall and having it witnessed is embarrassing. Being helped upstairs to her door only added insult to injury. When he moves to sit down, however, he is slightly stiff.

"The week isn't starting out well. I assume you saw the paper this morning?" He scrubs at the damp stains while attempting to recover some sense of dignity.
