Today in the Family Court Lobby I met an interesting lady. She was oldish with a simple humour to her. Finding people who appreciate simple humour is always a treat.
Our conversation began when she asked me what I was thinking. I had been done with my book for the past hour (I was in the room for a total of 3) and I must have looked like I had the cure to cancer on the brain because she flat-out asked me what I was thinking.
I blurted out, "That max occupancy sign says "22" but there are 24 chairs"
She took a second to verify this and giggled. We exchanged our respective reasons for being in the room to begin with, weather chitchat, bingo tips. Apparently she was there to be a witness as well, but to her son. Although they were offered, I wasn't interested in specifics. Other folks and their personal lives make me nervous.
She told me her son was a good boy...but a little too nonchalant about jumping into the deep end (to be as PC as possible). I rhetorically asked, "Well, what can you do? Maybe that's a good thing."
She told me that it's not a good thing, and when I asked why she told me about her ideal man. From her descriptors I imagine this man to be a Jude Law / Will Smith hybrid. Nothing suprising. When she asked me about my ideal man it didn't take much thought.
"Someone rustic. Introspective about awe-inspiring things. Heavy into flannel, perhaps. It'd be nice if he was into moving around a lot because I'd really like to live a little bit of everything. Someone who can just be. No noise, no action...just be."
She laughed and said, "So basically...a cowboy who doesn't talk to you."
"Sure, but a lone ranger would suffice."
My self depricating humour washed over her, somewhat; and it was time for me to leave. She said goodbye, while I wished her luck (and meant it). It was nice to share an hour with someone so pleasant.
On the drive home instead of screaming over spilt milk I thought about what I would most like to do with a significant other type person. I seriously doubt that it'll ever come up, but just in case...
It'd be nice to watch a volcano with someone. I think that's an experience I'd most like to share.
