Title: And so the Lightbulbs Flashed
Fandom: JONAS
Disclaimer: I own nothing
Warning:: None
Pairing: Nick/Fiona
Summary: Set shortly after "Frantic Romantic."

He shouldn't be doing this. The tabloids where still going on about the starlet and his brother's "break up" and he was meeting the actress at a library: sans private photographer.
Nick's pretty sure he's braking some unwritten Brother Rule, but Joe had given his blessing (sort of; more like he laughed and muttered "Good luck") and Kevin has smiled and warned against rushing things so all in all he should be able to date Fiona without worrying he was ruining the bonds of brotherhood. Doesn't stop the niggling feeling in the back of his mind though, the little whispered voice telling him he shouldn't be dating his brother's ex, that he's setting himself up for problems, and, when he's stressed and nervous and can't seem to stop the thoughts, that she's using him the way she did Joe.
And then she's there, long blond locks tucked under a non-descript hat, plain over coat covering the flashy fashionable clothes, head down, grey-green eyes moving around the room as she looks for him and the not-quite-seventeen year old feels the thoughts quiet as his lips turn upward.
She meets him behind the stacks, near the overlooked History section, and with an overly flourished move designed by some director for some dramatic reveal scene, removes her hat and coat, long curls cascading around her head and expensive silk blouse revealed; she always has to look camera ready, even if the audience is just one and he smiles at the display, absorbing the view in and loving that it's just for him.
He barely says a word, letting her words fill the space between them and she mainly speaks of herself; she'll always be self-centered, a product of become so famous so young. She looks at him though, directly in his eye, and he's surprised to discover he's missed that from the days before there was a band, when girls still saw him. It's a connection he's had limited to family and their stylist, and the writer soaks it in as she leans closer in excitement, her face splitting in a large grin.
She comes to him with wide, tear filled eyes when a tabloid posts a picture of them. The tears never fall, too much of a risk to her perfectly applied eye make-up, but the solemn boy just pulls her close, rubbing soothing circles on her back as she whispers in his ear, begging him to believe that she didn't do it, and he gets a glimpse of the fragile self-conscious little girl she once was. He believes her, despite the boost it would be to her career and how it would feed her the attention she craved. He means too much to her, and she can be ever so patient when she wants to be, knowing he'll cave eventually; for her. The curly haired boy pulls away, locking eyes with her to show her he understands before leaning in and kissing her softly. He was always better without words anyways.
