The Beginning

Youngjae felt really nervous. He was sitting down in a room alone, waiting for five people to come. He does not know exactly who he will be working with.
One by one, the five people came into the room. They introduced themselves as Yongguk, Himchan, Daehyun, Jongup and the youngest, Jun Hong. They were told of their roles in the whole group and Youngjae got the role as the main vocalist.
Youngjae is really proud of his voice. He had always gotten so many compliments from his family and friends about how strong and beautiful his voice is. He then realized that the lead vocalist role was given to Daehyun.
He must have a nice voice. Hmph...my voice sounds better than his, thought Youngjae.
Daehyun smiled at Youngjae but he didn't return it. Youngjae had only met Daehyun for five minutes and he already doesn't like him. Daehyun offered a handshake but Youngjae rolled his eyes and crossed his arms.
Over the next few days, the six of them spent most of the time getting to know each other and moved into their dorm. Daehyun also tried to talk Youngjae but he was always ignored.
Daehyun felt upset. This was not what he expected. Since he and Youngjae are the main and lead vocalists respectively, he should be getting to know more about each other, not getting ignored. One day, while Yongguk and Himchan went for their schedules and Jongup and Jun Hong went to school, Daehyun and Youngjae were left alone at home.
Youngjae was talking on the phone with a friend in his room. Daehyun was busy making some food for himself and was about to go into Youngjae's room, to ask if he wanted to eat too. Youngjae's room for door was left ajar and when Daehyun was about to knock on the door, he stopped midway. He heard Youngjae saying his name, "That Daehyun, I don't like him the moment I met him. Seriously, lead vocalist? I don't think he even has a nice voice."
Daehyun softly sighed and went back into the kitchen. He mopily made food and ate silently. A few minutes later, Youngjae came out of the room and went to the kitchen, looking through the fridge. He looked at Daehyun, sitting in the dining room, eating by himself.
"You cooked for yourself only? Are you the only one in the house right now?" asked Youngjae.
"Why would I cook for someone who doesn't like me?" answered Daehyun.

That night, Youngjae couldn't sleep. He was still aghast, knowing that Daehyun had heard his conversation on the phone. He didn't mean to hurt him. All day, Daehyun merely ignored him when Youngjae tried to say cheerful things. If Daehyun continues to act like that, it might just affect his career. He didn't want his singing career to end like that when it hasn't even begin just because of his selfish character.
Youngjae sat upright on his bed. He looked around in the room he shared with Jun Hong and Yongguk, snoring loudly. In the beginning, Youngjae was glad he didn't have to share a room with Daehyun. Thinking of Daehyun, Youngjae felt upset and guilty.
He got off bed and headed to the bathroom when he saw the door to their balcony was opened. Youngjae raised his eyebrow. He remembered seeing Jongup closing the door. He walked towards the balcony but stopped halfway, almost yelping, when he saw Daehyun standing on the balcony, hands on the railing and staring at the sky.
He quietly tiptoed and heard Daehyun talking to himself.
Daehyun asked himself, "What did I do that made Youngjae hate me? Is my voice not that nice? He hasn't even heard it yet."
Youngjae felt more guilty than he originally was. Daehyun was right. He didn't do anything and yet, Youngjae never liked him.
A few minutes of silence, he heard Daehyun beginning to sing. Youngjae was suddenly mesmerized. That was the most beautiful voice he had ever heard in his life!
Daehyun stopped singing and continue to stare at the sky. Youngjae took a deep breath and cleared his throat. Daehyun spun around, surprised to see Youngjae.
"Not asleep yet?" Youngjae asked.
Daehyun shook his head.
"Er...hyung..." Youngjae called.
Daehyun's eyes widened. Youngjae was a year younger than Daehyun and had never addressed him as hyung since they were not close. It was indeed really a surprise to hear him call Daehyun hyung.
"Hyung?" Daehyun repeated questioningly.
"Yeah...you see...I'm really sorry about today. I didn't mean to upset you or anything. I just don't know much about you and if you would forgive me and give me a chance, I would really like that," said Youngjae.
Youngjae held out his hand, asking for a handshake. He wanted to start over, and forget about his bad behaviour in the beginning. Daehyun thought for a while as he looked at Youngjae's hand. He looked up and smiled before accepting Youngjae's handshake, showing the beginning of a new friendship.
