Pretty funny. I still like it, but I also use twitter, facebook, google+, wordpress (two different installations), some wikis, irc, gtalk, sms, and email lists.
No clue the best way to manage homeschooling. Using a text file in dropbox for now.
It works for my pattern of access to computers, which I suspect is extremely different from yours. (I may get a moment here and there occasionally, but mostly it is a block of fifteen to thirty minutes every day or two.)
LJ remains the social blogging site of choice. Its structure supports longer and more complex/thoughtful entries than any other and it's one of the few that support threaded comment responses. Disqus is slowly creeping in that direction but few blogs have a full Disqus implementation that I'm aware of. The /. structure also works, but other than slashdot and reddit I'm not sure who uses that.
As for homeschooling, and shared documents, I'm finding gdocs works surprisingly well, including good support for multiple real-time editors.
