True, although I think if they tried to stretch logic that far there would be some consumer protection agencies after them for it.
Anyway, honest companies could always take the other route and instead of touting the sugar, promote the absence of corn.
For example, Post Natural Advantage Raisin Bran, now on store shelves, prominently states on the front of the box: "Contains no high fructose corn syrup". (It does have regular corn syrup in it, however, albeit after sugar on the ingredients list.)
I'll reserve judgment on whether this study holds up--another researcher a couple of years ago set out to demonstrate that link and found there wasn't evidence.
Not that I like HFCS; but I'm not eager to see America glom on to yet another "THIS is THE cause of all our health woes". Study after study has shown that total caloric intake in the American diet has steadily increased over the same period as the rise of HFCS.
Besides, everyone know THE cause of all America's woes is the automobile.

This: "A few years after that happens, it won't surprise me if we pass single payer medical care, the Catholic church allows female priests and requires male clergy to marry, same-sex marriage becomes available nationally, the national Christmas tree is declared unconstitutional, evolution by natural selection is taught in every school, real bagels and lox becomes available in all major cities,, the U.S. rectifies its balance of payments by exporting AI robot butlers, we capture and try Osama Bin Laden, the U.S. wins the World Cup in soccer, and Ford, GM, and Chrysler introduce pollution-free flying cars."

99% of the sweetener is 100% real hfcs.
Because the sugar is only part of the product anyway, so 100% of what? The only thing that's literally "100% real sugar" is ... a bag of sugar.
They can get around anything.
