A couple years ago, there was a massive exhibit of maps in Chicago. Several libraries and museums participated (the planetarium had celestial maps, one of the libraries had maps from fantasy books, etc.) The main portion of the exhibit was the the Museum of Science and Industry.
Two of the maps on display were the traditional Harry Beck Map along side a representation of the London tube based on actual geographical distances and locations. It really drove home how genius Beck's map is.
