Recently, there was an article in the NY Times about how amateurs are using web tools to make their own maps. I was thinking -- why not do something like that with this community? Maybe make a map of recommended restaurants, and tie it to our tags? There is a lot of potential in these tools and in this community, and I'd love to combine them.

I'd love to add to a list of personal recommendations, but I'm not sure I have the time to help with making the map. I've also moved out of San Diego as of June 2006, so my recommendations might be outdated (except for Phil's lol). Which reminds me, I need to ask the community if someone else wants to take over as moderator/maintainer.

Fascinating read, thanks for sharing. Of course, beside my interest in the San Diego side, my interest is on the map side.

What that article talks about is, to a degree, what I've been doing for a living for 10 years now.
