Geek Girl Cred Check

I was interested to read Seanan McGuire's post about checking if geek girls are "real". I find the whole concept bizarre, and at first thought that I've never run into it and I wonder why not. Don't I look female enough to warrant a check

As to guys checking to see if I'm a "real" geek... I don't think it really happens to me. Or if it does, I don't notice it as such. I'm fairly oblivious to a good deal of human behavior in the normal course of things, and tend to hang out with people I already know at cons. Or their friends, who generally seem to be of a sufficient quality of civilized behavior that "friend of a friend" is good enough to establish a certain portion of shared geek cred.

Heh, being, ahem, exuberant about fandoms means geek cred check is hard to notice. Too busy being geekier than thou crackling over minutia.
