They take no notice of him, far too wrapped up in each other, in their silly little games. Laughter and teasing and laughter again, and the haphazard tangling of limbs as they tussle on the couch. Both smiling, two sets of brown eyes sparkling and crinkling at the corners, mussed dark curls and tousled blonde locks.
Theo resists the impulse to slam the door behind him as he slips out of the common room, but only just.

"-pathetic, the way you just sit around waiting for him like a dog, like a fool," Devin sneers, lip curling scornfully. "He sure as hell isn't waiting for you, now is he? You're not worth that to him, and you never were, and you never will be. He left, just like everyone. They always leave you in the end, because you're so wrapped up in your stupid music and your pointless scribbles that you can never hold on to anything real. No one could ever love that."
For an agonisingly long moment, all is perfectly, silently still. Neither sister backs down, neither blinks.
Quite suddenly, Aislinn lifts her gaze. "Tell me, Tamnais," she says coolly, and Devin whirls to see him standing not three paces away, "do you still think Devin is the good sister?"

"The lover scorned is not a flattering look on you, Tamnais," he interrupts. "You don't want me to do it because you cannot stand that I have anyone so important to me that I would do this, and you cannot stand the idea of anyone else having a claim on me, and you cannot stand that she can have so many things you aren't even supposed to think, and you cannot stand that it's someone who would never understand what has happened between us, and you cannot stand that I told her I would even though I know all of that." Theo pauses and lets out a breath. "I'm not allowed to love you, Tam. I can't. Not like that."
"But you do," Tam says, and grabs Theo by the shoulders. "Theo. You do."
He jerks back. "I don't."
"Stop lying to me!"
