I haven't seen this episode yet but I totally agree with you that it felt like the pace of the Arthur/Gwen relationship is too fast. Even just in that second episode, it felt a little like the attraction just materialized from nowhere. I don't know, I would have liked a little more hints of getting to know each other/liking each other as people (a la end of Season 1) before they went the romance route, but that could be just me.

And dude, I was just saying to someone the other day that it's basically impossible for me to really support Gwen/Arthur because we already know how it's going to end. I mean, ultimately, she's completely in love with someone else, and he gets kind of screwed. That is not the "700 years of canon" that you want to be advertising!

Also, what happened to his very obvious crush on Morgana from last season?

Yes. I think this whole sudden love thing came way too fast. Sudden attraction I understand. (except that wouldn't work since he knew her almost his whole life and wasn't attracted to her before.) But this whole doomed love with soulful longing looks after one or two episodes. Please.

That's exactly it.

I think they saw that it wouldn't work with Morgana after a few episodes and worked the siblings angle, which I really prefer. They have a great sibling relationship and the whole flirting thing always felt a little off for me.

Yeah...the sad thing about writing a story based on legend is that the ending is already known -- and we know that Guinevere eventually betrays Arthur through her love for Lancelot. Anyone writing Arthur/Gwen has the rose-tinted glasses firmly perched on the end of their noses, or simply has no idea of the legend.

I think the thing that confuses me most about Merlin (the show) is that they have Guinevere as a servant! Even in this day and age, ladies in waiting were exactly that, LADIES. They were the daughters from high placed families, not from the general masses!

Hey, they can write as much Gwen/Arthur fluff they want. They just have to know that in the end it won't be a happy ending. Or an Alternative Universe. *g*

And I don't mind about the servant thing since this is no show set in medieval times but in a fantasy world. There weren't any dragons then. (except in my hometown.)

YANA about Gwen/Arthur being super fast. It's just a mistake by the writers and everyone knows it. But as it's happening, I see no reason to fight it. I'm more of the Merlin/Morgana camp anyway. ;)

You and your strange word shortening. I always have to google first before I understand what you want from me. ;)

And hey, I don't fight it. I just point out what I don't like about it and that it's ultimately doomed. Like everyone on the show. DOOMED I tell you. *g*

And yes to Merlin/Morgana. I hope they keep the delicious UST.
