I want to come and I have three sewing machines, two of which are featherlight Brother's I can let others use.
Besides cutsews, a simple gathered skirt with a gathered ruffle seems like an easy, straightforward project (some people have a hard time with gathering!) and I personally want to make some sort of a pinafore. I *do* want to do some cutsews, too, they are a great idea.
we could do the skirts as well, but I would like to talk to some other sewing gals about how they gather. I've been told before that my method works well and looks great but apparently no one else uses it XD (lol that's what I get for just looking at stuff and going 'ya I can do that this way right?') and I do know how to make a really awesome under pinafore (its shorter then a normal one but gives everything an awesome cupcake shape!)
There are so many gathering techniques, I'm sure yours is reasonable. I know a few, myself. Perhaps we can print out some instructional with a few different methods for people to take home and practice?
I think skirts would be extra fast. How many yards do you need for a traditional skirt in your size? I generally need about 4 if I want a ruffle.
I normally use 4 yards as well because I like my skirts extra-extra poofy XD (though normally a girl my size would use 3) though I do have one I used 4 1/2 on and a peti that I put over 7 yards into XD
I really want to do the sewing meet up :) If I can get a ride I can bring my sewing machine and my serger. I can even try to get my serger set up to gather automatically.. then it would be super easy for everyone to make skirts :)
I was thinking- do we want to set up some sort of a field trip before the actual sewing event to pick up fabrics? We could go to a Fabric Depot sale, perhaps? They have TONS of great loli style cotton prints that would be great, and on a 30% off day totally worth it!
we could arrange something like that for anyone who needs to pick up materials in the morning or something... but would we be using your car or taking the bus together? (I think you and cupcake are the only ones with cars and I don't know if she is going to be there :/) also let me know if you find anything out for the venue, K?
I am putting in my calender to ask about the venue in question on the 10th.
I also have the ability to rent out my apartment complex's day use area. It is free, but I need to give them a $400 check to hold in case of damages. It *kind* of scares me, just because that is a lot of money, but I can't imagine a bunch of lolitas making dresses would cause much damage. ;)
This second option is bigger, but I think with less tables? I will have to check. I also live kind of deep in SE, on 92nd and Flavel. The 19 stops a block from the complex, but it is like an hour ride from downtown.
As far as a car, I am certainly willing to give a ride to anyone who would fit in my car, which is unfortunately small (room for *maybe* 5 including me). We could also go to Knittn Kitten (thrift fabric on 75th & glisan SE)
Questions: Do you know when you want to host this event? Can it be on a Sunday?
Ask about the one downtown first, but if we need to use one at your building I'll probably put down the deposit check myself, I couldn't ask you to do that and this is my meetup so I'm responsible after all.
The event can be on a Sunday :) earlyist I think I could pull it all together would be Jul. 19th so pretty much any weekend after that would work as long as no-one has a major scheduling conflict.
ok then I'll put you on that list and when I make the post on lolpops we will know a little better about how many people will be bringing sewing macheines and how many people need the use of an extra.

Where-abouts do you live? I think I may be one of the only ones with a car.
