Busy Weekend

Apr 10, 2006 12:28

Friday was my last day of uni before Easter Break. After two lectures in the morning, dissection lab in the afternoon, I took the EuroNight train to Hamburg (via Hannover) in the evening. Early the next morning, 6:13 AM to be precise, I got out in the lovely (ha,ha) capital of Lower Saxony.

On Saturday, April 8th, my cousin married his long-time girlfriend of 8 years. They married in the church where my parents and my mother's siblings had married. The ceremony was soo beautiful. The bride's dress was extremely beautiful and she had little white flowers in her hair, which was let down. Afterwards, the guests all drove behind the car of the married couple, honking all the way until we got to the hotel, where the reception was held. Speeches were held, songs were sung, and the friends of the couple had come up with an excellent PowerPoint presentation about the living habits and origins of bride and groom. The buffet was also very tasty. Later in the evening, the newly-weds did their first dance, a waltz of course, and then all the others joined in. At midnight, the wedding cake was brought.

On Sunday, my family went to see "Ice Age 2". We laughed a lot, especially at Sid and Scrat, but I wouldn't call it better than the first movie. They're about even, imo. There were scenes, i.e. the ones with the prehistoric fish, that were much more scary. At night, we watched "Walk the Line". The acting was superb and I was surprised about how well they sang. There were some things, that were left unexplained, though, and I would've like to see how they got to certain conclusions - like Johnny Cash finally making up with his dad.

Another series I like to watch at the moment is "Coupling" by the BBC. I like Steve, aka Commodore Norrington, best, followed by Jeff and his Welsh accent.

Now to something completely different:
Austrian President Heinz Fischer has finally stated in an interview with the "Standard" newspaper, that there is a "wrong 'victim role' in the Austrian Declaration of Independence of 1945". A large portion of the Austrians were happy about the "Anschluss". It's very satisfactory that Austria finally admits to its past and does not portray itsself so completely wrong as it is done by other countries, the best example being "The Sound of Music". There were just as many perpetrators as victims.

WOMBAT Results
Having packed everything beforehand for my trip, there was of course one thing I had to forget - the piece of paper where I wrote my code for the WOMBAT on. Now I can't check my results:(. I really hope that JKR keeps the WOMBAT up at least until April 19th, because then I'm back in Vienna.
