I am currently at uni in Ballarat and revel in the comfort of being around people who understand. That is not to say that my husband and family don't try because they do. However it is such a relief to be rubbing shoulders with other scholarly people who understand how truly fun it is to grab that book on epistemology and really get into it, and

There is a certain amount of scholarly life that those not directly involved just don't understand (although they are supportive). It stays that way even once you move from student to professor.
