Sherlock Series 3
THERE BE SPOILERS
For me series 3 has been incredible. I am still not over the amazing The Empty Hearse and how they handled the Fall, the reunion and Mary. It was a love letter to fandom and I loved that.
The Sign of Three had so many amazing moments: John asking Sherlock to be his best man and what that implicated, the heartfelt speech, the stag do (I KNOW ASH), their first dance and Sherlock's final deduction and last vow.
Then His Last Vow. Aside from Magnussen who I didn’t appreciate in any way (what a disgusting creep. That’s all I’ll say on the matter), I adored the way the Mary reveal was handled, I also loved the ‘romance’ in this episode and how awkward it made me feel (it should and I loved it), the incredible actor that is Martin Freeman, and that mindfuck (excusez les mots) of a reveal at the very end. Amazing! What a tense episode.
Apparently there’s people who didn’t enjoy the series. It makes me sad, but I guess after I still try to block one part of Scandal in Belgravia from my mind (not what you think) and everyone adoring that one, people do like Sherlock for different reasons. For me it’s all about the characters and this series was such a love-fest for each other (that includes Mrs Hudson, Mycroft, the Holmes family (I screamed at the telly when I realised it was the Cumberbatches), Molly, Lestrade and, who would have thought it, Anderson), that I am bursting with love for this show, it’s characters and its creators. I am delighted there’s gonna be a series 4 and 5 (no matter how long the BBC stretch the announcement, because they’d be stupid not to recommission) and let’s hope the rumours of it not taking two years this time are true.
I was wondering what you guys’ favourite Sherlock episodes were :) This is my top 4:
1 - The Reichenbach Fall
I hated it the first time I watched it. Couldn't handle it emotionally. Took me a year to watch it again. I did when the filming on series 3 started. Only then did I see its brilliance and now it's my favourite episode. I think it's utterly incredible. Writing, acting, cinematography, locations, soundtrack, all of it.
2 - The Empty Hearse
I adore everything about this episode. E-very-thing.
3 - A Study in Pink
Every time I rewatch I feel that sense of 'holy crap what is this gloriousness' again. <3
4 - The Great Game
If not just for this pool scene. My most-watched scene of anything ever. I can probably quote it. (Not probably. I can.)
Behind these it gets a bit blurry. I love certain bits about certain episodes and I definitely love certain episodes as a whole more than others, but I can’t quite make up my mind about a definite top 9.
