Classic Novel
Two days ago to kill my boredom I went to library to have a good Internet connection. There from the library, I borrowed a classic novel written by Alexandre Dumas, Jr. The title of the novel was "The Lady of the Camellias".
The first reason I borrowed the novel was because I like the cover of the novel, yeah! I like to judge a book from it's cover. And according to its cover, the novel already filmed for 13 times. Hmmm... It must has a very interesting story. Then I borrowed the novel.
Then, the novel was not disappointed me at all; indeed, The novel had an interesting story. The story was about a forbidden love of a lover from the 18th century. The setting of the novel was in France. The novel was so unique because there's someone who involved as an unnamed narrator in the novel story. The main actor of the novel told whole his love story to the narrator and then the narrator told us (the reader) about their love story in a novel. That was the first time I read such point of view of the novel, very interesting.
The story was about a love story between Marguerite Gautier who was "kept" by many lovers and a young provincial bourgeois, Armand Duval. The story began when the narrator attended an auction of a "demi-mondaine" things. There, in the auction, the narrator bought a book titled "Manon Lescaut". He spent one hundred franc for the book. On the first page of the book there were this inscriptions:
Manon Kepada Marguerite,
Kerendahan Hati,
Tertanda Armand Duval
[Sorry I don't use English,since I read the Indonesian version one and I don't know good words to say it in English. My poor English]
The next day, after he bought the book in the auction there was a young man came to his house asked him about the book that he bought before and the young man name was Armand Duval. And then the story began when Armand Duval told the story behind of the inscriptions.
I won't write the detail of the story here. Over all Marguerite Gautier Armand Duval so in love with each other but their love story was not easy. There were so many obstacles in their love story, from the money problem until the rejection from Armand's family about their relationship.
Over all, I like the story even the story was Angst genre but I still like it. If you are a love story novel reader, I recommended this novel and for you who love classic novel, I recommended this novel too.
