I hate moving

I hate moving. I might be crazy dissatisfied with where I am, but the idea of putting stuff in boxes, culling the junk I don't need, schlepping it somewhere else and organizing again, it puts me into a stress-stupor ( Read more... )

ineptitude, my thoughts on things other than fiction

From the looks of things? You and three other of my favorite writers are off to Dreamwidth-land. It looks ok... Those of us who lurk and enjoy your writing will find you again, if you leave us a trail of breadcrumbs to follow. ; )

For the foreseeable future, I'll be crossposting everything. And I'll leave my fic here, I guess, and make duplicate copies over there? I...yeah. Really haven't figured out the logistics yet.

People have been trickling over to DW for awhile, and tons of people have been doing what I did, and setting up accounts 'just in case' and not using them yet. It was only a matter of time before there was some sort of LJ is Pissing Us Off incident and a mass migration. Actually, I think Copperbadge heading over was the tipping point.

I think DW will probably be great, it's a whole, by fans for fans thing. But I hate change, ug.

the "moving boxes" part is actually pretty easy and painless :)

but yeah, i don't really want to have to check both lj and dw...

Is there something I can do other than to cut and paste every article and post it over there with back-dated dates? Please tell me there's some sort of easy "hey pull all my entries and update the links wouldja?" ticky box...

yeah, you can import your whole journal, comments, tags and everything :) it's super easy - the links stay the same though (like if you have fic linking from part 1 to 2 and so on, those will still be the lj entry links and you'd have to go and edit those manually)

if you set your DW default entry setting to locked or private before you import, then all those new entries will be that setting and you can go unlock whichever ones you want to later

Nevermind that last reply, I found what I wanted. There was a ticky box! Very happy, me.

I'm not at all techie minded and I did it easily enough. It seems to have worked out. If you link your posts to lj, people without DW accounts can still read and comment.

Jump in, the water's lovely.

Jumping. Splashing about a little. I can't find you there, where are you? I admire your devotion to the AU, and I want to keep track of you.

There's a general guide index for LJ users here, with info on how to import your existing entries, friends list, icons, etc, here. Moving is pretty easy.

I think I found the big things i needed, thanks for the link. It looks like I still have to update my links, which is a PITA, but I'll just keep at it until it's done.
