Oh gods. Yes. Thank you. I love this Gwen - fallible but real. And Jack, going along with it, so willingly - except for the last line, which speaks to me just a little of his regrets. Perfect. This line was my favourite:
He has a lot of practice looking surprised at the things that he knows are coming.
Thank you! I'm intrigued with Jack, really. I think he's a simple creature for the most part, likes people, likes to be wanted, has friends that he likes better than all the rest of the world, but he's lived a loooong time, so he doesn't get too attached to the outcomes of things anymore. There's an overall simplicity to him -- but writing him in a simplistic way is missing the point. Ditto for Gwen.
This is my first het! Sort of. I failed to actually write any real porn, and I did it from Jack's POV...but still. I'm counting it as breaking the seal on the issue. Who knows what can be possible now?
A. HOT B. Oh hey, Jack/Gwen without Ianto bashing. I wish that weren't so novel. C. Oh look, Gwen is fucked up CRAZY and it's not Gwen bashing. D. Jack's not an asshole. E. But everyone is still CRAZY.
a) Ee, thanks! I believe that you know from hot, so this means a lot to me. b) Yeah, it's overly simplistic (and boring!) to write j/i or j/g as an either/or construct. And yet that's sadly the dominant mode of the fandom...of probably any fandom. Ah well. I never strove to be mainstream. c) I love the crazy. Wanna pet and kiss the crazy. d) No, just...not too attached to the outcomes of things, as I commented to dem above, and he's not playing by the Western bourgeois code. It looks like assholery to some, but the intention is different. e) Hug and kiss the crazy, give it a blanket and a nice scotch.
Sweet combo of hot and angst. I feel so for Jack! Sniff. I like Gwen, thought you captured her desire and hesitation (as shown through his eyes--knowing what would trigger what kind of response because obviously, they'd done this many times before. And then we see, well yup, they have...)
Hey! That was my first Gwen-Jack piece to read, ever! Liked it, like the thought of them meeting like this, quick forays that can never be more than that.
They're not relationship material, and yet the desire is there as well as the honest interest. I rather like Gwen, quite a bit the more I think about her. There aren't nearly enough fics that explore the aspect of her character that can have a workplace affair, move past a workplace affair, confess and retcon her boyfriend about said affair...there's a whole lotta interesting there. She's a child in a lot of ways, unwilling to look past her immediate point of view to the big picture, unwilling to take full responsibility for her actions. But it's not like she doesn't care, doesn't feel guilty. Retcon must be a massive temptation for someone like that.
Angstysmut, it's my favourite genre. Not so much with the actual smut here, but hey, I'm out of practice. Gotta get my sea legs back, as it were. Glad you liked!

I love how this is more angst than smut. It is... honestly. And that's why I like it.
