Wow - I must be pretty jaded. This neither surprised nor angered me. I guess I went through all of that a few years ago, and now I figure there's nothing I can do about it. Always good, though, to have truth confirmed.
For those of us who saw through the Bush administration’s house of cards before the invasion, the DSM doesn’t really offer anything we “didn’t already know.” However, its provenance and its comprehensive yet straightforward representation of the administration’s Iraq policy present the facts in a much more compelling light. It also represents hard evidence of the administration’s willful misrepresentation of its own policies.
The DSM’s importance lies not so much in what it says but who said it. This is not “sour grapes” coming from ousted White House officials with a bone to pick-it is the official record of a meeting held by the US’ staunchest ally. The DSM may not tell us anything we didn’t already know, but it does offer hard evidence that the Bush administration misled the country into war.
I can't really understand why the American people are feeling so duped by this. It's been apparent since even before 9/11 that Bush was going to finish what his daddy started. In fact, he even made comments about how Hussein tried to kill his daddy!
The only thing that shocks me is that the UK went along with us. Since when did Britain become our bitch?
Since we surpassed it in nearly every criterion on which nations are judged. We're sorta losing the whole 'democracy' thing however, which is ironic

FYI, there's a grass-roots impeachment movement, I think maybe it's at http://www.votetoimpeach.org, possibly someplace else, my dad mentioned it to me and I can't remember what url he said. They're doing a march on Washington in September and all that jazz. I think it's time we had some old-school protesting around here again.
You know, ever since I found out the secret service kept tabs on people who attended anti-government rallied or signed petitions or publically criticized any major political entity, I've been afraid to involve myself in events and organizations that the government targets.
I am convinced that, while going through a federal security clearance investigation or trying to land a government business contract, someone will quietly mark a hidden box on my application, and that will be all she wrote.
Uhm, so what kind of system do we have where citizens live in justifiable fear of retaliation for expressing their opinions about the government? Anyone?

An excellent piece on this very subject can be found here: "Some questions for media dismissing Downing Street Memo as old news."
