A bit of fiction

Just a little something I wrote about sand.
You should read it. It will do you good, or, at least, it will do you no harm from which you cannot quickly recover.

now with LJ-cuts! Whee!

I am amused, and very impressed. The story is interesting, and beautiful (in a strange sort of way), and yet at the same time also a story about a very, very bad joke. It is really weird that it manages to be both of these at the same time.

And if you were to change the ending, so that it became no longer a story about a very bad joke, I would be very interested to see where the story might go next.

See, that's the funny part about it. I can't. There'd be nowhere to go. The entire story was grown out from the punchline. I started with the punchline and worked up to it. The setting is based on the fact that I needed a meaningful way to use the word "sgun". The first section is there solely as an excuse to get Monet into that setting. When I went into it, I didn't even know what a Shan was (turns out, they're one of the peoples of Burma.) The story has no next. It's done. It really is all about a very bad joke.

Now, if anyone wanted to take this setting and run with it, by all means, feel free (so long as you acknowledge everything that is Mine) but that would be a different story, and it's not one that I think that I could necessarily write.

On the other hand, I am glad that you enjoyed it, and that you found it strange and beautiful, as both strange beauty and the enjoyment of my readers were very much my intent.

*chuckle* excellent.

(made even better by having seen the late great mr. zevon perform the tune of nearly-the-same-name live in the late 80s.)
