Ugh, car trouble :( My "service engine soon" light came on two nights ago, which has me kind of nervous. I don't know what to offer as advice -- can you afford any kind of car payment? You might check Carmax.com - they're national, and they have a pretty good rep for used cars.

Honestly? Ask your mechanic. If you've already replaced everything that *can* break, you're probably okay. (I had sucktastic bills at 90k miles but was assured that the car is basically sound so we're still chugging at 130k). +1 on carmax being a good place to start, both sister dear and the 'rents have gotten cars there to good reviews. Do make sure to confirm that the fabulous bargain is not a "flooded vehicle" because after the car is underwater it is never, ever right again so they tend to sell them v. cheap.
