I got dropped off a couple of hours before class, and the empty time led me to load up LiveJournal. I've been thinking about it a lot lately as a platform for relationships and connections. It's lack of ubiquity also lends itself to more honest expression. My Facebook and my Twitter have to be an extension of my professional and/or academic self. My angst has no place there; too many of my connections are from work or from school for that.

This is definitely true for me. LJ is the space where I complain about work. No colleagues present. It's unlikely anyone I work with or a potential future employer will find it.

Also I can speak freely about things that I don't necessarily want to discuss with family members. I post irreverent things every now and them, but I'm not out as an atheist to them.

Also I don't think anybody in my family wants to hear about how [distant relative] is posting another thing about "how the Muslims are taking over America" and it's driving me fucking crazy.

So I do all that here.
