(In which Jazz is sulking.)
As a Special Operations agent, Jazz’s job involved finding out things the enemy would really rather be kept secret. Irrepressible curiosity mixed with the nerve and ability to uncover the truth meant that finding the answers to all those niggling little questions was a way of life for the Autobot Head of Special Ops. Predictably, this carried over in his personal relationships, and Jazz counted himself lucky that Prowl did not mind his lover’s stalker-ish tendencies. (For once, Prowl’s habit of compartmentalizing his emotions into logical/illogical responses was working out in Jazz’s favour.) As head of Ops there was very little that Jazz was not kept informed of. So this whole thing with the Seekers disappearing and no one knowing where in Primus’ name they had flitted off to? It really grated on Jazz’s circuits. Oh, it had been amusing at first to point and laugh as the Decepticons scrambled around in a panic, but as time passed and no new information on the Seekers whereabouts could be found Jazz started getting twitchy. Which was why - when offered the chance - Jazz and his team had jumped on the mission to gather as much intelligence from the Decepticons as possible in hopes of discovering at least the reason behind the Seekers disappearance.
Prowl had been stressing over the possibility of it being a trap, in addition to coming up with a dozen contingency plans for every encounter with the Decepticons just in case the Seekers chose that cycle to return. Jazz could see the signs of imminent meltdown in his lover and would really rather avoid that. Even Prime was starting to get twitchy as megacycles passed without the sign of so much as a wingtip to show for their efforts in finding the Seekers location. The less said about Red Alerts state of mind the better. It was driving Jazz - and the rest of Ops - up the wall, but everything they uncovered only verified the obvious and pointed to the same thing.
The Decepticons were as confused as the Autobots.
The Seekers had literally just up and flown off one rotation and never came back. It was if they had just… vanished.
Megatron had been beyond torqued off, but the fact that he had lost pretty much his entire air force in one go meant that the Autobots had been able to retake Iacon. From there the Autobots had steadily pushed the Decepticon lines back. Now things were at a stalemate. The Autobots could hold what they had, but pushing for more would stretch their defences too thin. It was the same thing for the Decepticons. It was obvious that reinforcements were needed on both sides.
Despite various misgivings, a team had been sent to Vector Sigma as soon as the Autobot lines stabilized. Unfortunately, not only were they too low on the resources to build many shells, but Vector Sigma had also gone into some form of hibernation. Vague references had been made about need some kind of key to reactivate the life-giving computer, but the research team was stumped as to what said key was.
Suddenly finding the Seekers had taken on a whole new importance.
The Decepticons need the Seekers back to beat the Autobots, while the Autobots were just as determined to keep the Seekers away from the Decepticons. No one was naive enough to count on the Seekers joining the Autobots. The best they could hope for was that the Seekers would remain their own faction and act against the Decepticons. Even if they could not pit the Seekers against the Decepticons, the Autobots hoped to at least convince Starscream to keep his forces neutral in the fight. Of course, all this planning was dependant on the Autobots ability to find the Seekers first.
Soundwave and his team disappearing - obviously sent to search for the missing Seekers - was the only sign the Autobots needed to step up their own search efforts.
In the end though, they had very little to show for all their digging. Jazz grimaced, waving off Blaster’s concerned look, “M’fine, mech. Keep yer attention on keepin’ us under the radar, m’kay?”
Jazz leaned back in his seat, still trying to fit the tiny scraps of information they had found into a coherent picture and cursing his failure - Jazz, Mirage and Bumblebee’s combined efforts had once again failed to produce anything on the wayward Seekers that the Autobots did not already know. The extraction and backup team of Skyfire, Ironhide, Tracks and Blaster had waited for as long as they could, but the dust off had been tight.
“We’ve got incoming!” Blaster shouted in warning, and Skyfire wrenched into a tank-churning corkscrew in an attempt to avoid enemy fire.
Flung across the shuttle’s interior as Skyfire whipped around to engage the small pack of tetra jet drones, Jazz reflected that he really should have expected something like this to happen.
Nothing involving Starscream ever worked out the way one expected it to.

So has anyone noticed that I tend to write my fic backwards? *confused face* Bah, whatever. So anyway, I have been attacked by the Prowl and Jazz muse, so the new few posts will feature our favorite black and white's rather prominantly. After that however, we have some slightly more exciting bits. ^_^
Now I have to go work on my final project (which I should really be doing rather than writing fanfic. Oops. XP)
Here there be dragons!
