Chapter one
Tick. Tock. Tick. Tock.
God.
I'd never noticed before how awfully annoying the living room clock was.
The headache that had begun on my bus ride home was worsening by the, well, second.
Tick. Tock. Tick. Tock.
Perched perfectly upright on the edge of the sofa, I stared dumbly at the items lying in front of me on the coffee table.
On the right, there was a single cheerfully multi-colored card.
On the left, there was a neat stack of paper resting next to a cream envelope.
Tick. Tock. Tick. Tock.
A sudden jarring noise made me literally jump up and out of my seat.
Jesus Christ!
Fishing my ringing cell phone out of my pocket, I fumbled with it for a few seconds before finally seeing that the caller ID said Kim Kibum. I breathed a sigh of relief and sat myself back down. This kid! Was he trying to scare me to death? I really didn't need a heart attack right at that moment...not that there ever was a need or a right time for a potentially lethal cardiac episode.
"Hello?"
"Ah, nope. I'm at home. What's up?"
"Nah, it's fine. I'm...I think I'll pass this time. Why don't you go find-"
"Hm? Do I? I don't think..."
"No way. Nope. Really, nothing's wrong. You're overthinking-"
"You-No listen, I'm-You're im-"
"Okay okay okay. Fine. Fine! I'll fess up. Okay? I'll fess up. Yes. Yes, there might be a little something."
"......"
He was waiting for an answer. If impatience could make a sound, I was hearing it loud and clear. I chucked awkwardly.
Kibum-ah, hyung seems to have hit the jackpot.
