Our house is a good 250 years old and we used to get mice a LOT...Until we got our 3rd cat, Keanu O.o;

Annoying little buggers that scurry around in the walls and make a helluva lot of noise for such little things. The sound they make does not sound like what you think a mouse running around would, it is more like scratching. Try putting some rat poison in your walls/basement/mousetraps?
Get a cat? ;D
