This, Kaidoh thought darkly to himself, was all Inui-senpai's fault.

"So, where are you going, Viper?" Momoshiro asked, riding his bike lazily on the path next to Kaidoh.

"Home," Kaidoh answered.

"How boring, how booooooring," Momoshiro said, grinning at him. "How do you stand it, you're so boring!"

Kaidoh gritted his teeth. Sure, he could outrun the bike. Probably. But he wasn't going to stoop to running from the moron! He shouldn't have to, Momoshiro usually stayed away from Kaidoh on his own! "Then go talk to someone else and leave me alone."

Momoshiro sighed deeply. "I would, Viper, I would but Echizen had things to do with his old man. Arai has too much homework and Kikumaru-senpai left the clubhouse too quickly. So, the only one left is you. Lucky you!"

Well, maybe it wasn't all Inui-senpai's fault. Some of it was plain rotten luck. But still.

"What?" Kaidoh asked, wondering if he had heard Inui-senpai correctly.

"I wonder if you could go the rest of the day without fighting with Momoshiro," Inui had repeated.

"What do you even care about that?" Kaidoh muttered, toweling sweat off his face. He had just finished a practice match against Fuji-senpai to see Inui-senpai sitting beside his water bottle. Kaidoh had thought that Inui was just taking more data but that was obviously not the case. "Besides, it's the idiot's fault that he fights me. He always starts it."

"It does take two to fight," Inui pointed out. "You let yourself get provoked. And it is just simple curiosity. You two fight almost every practice, almost anytime you have to talk to one another. I wonder if you have the strength of will to refrain."

Kaidoh clenched his towel in his fist. "He doesn't provoke me! I have more strength than the idiot! I could go the rest of the season without fighting him!"

Inui smiled. "I wasn't think of anything so drastic. But the rest of the day, that would be a good indicator of your fight-avoidance index. It'd be interesting to see if you could do it."

"You don't think I can?" Kaidoh demanded, throwing down the towel.

"Let's just say that I have no doubts about your strength of will but this," Inui said, tapping his notebook, "makes a persuasive argument. You haven't ignored Momoshiro's goading even once, according to all the data I've taken. Still, it's an intriguing experiment. What do you say, Kaidoh? Do you think you could stop from fighting with Momoshiro for the rest of today?"

And Kaidoh had said yes. After all, practice had been almost half-over and Kaidoh had more restraint and control in his hand than anyone else had in their entire body. Plus, it would be easy to avoid a fight with Momoshiro by avoiding the idiot himself. If only he had known the moron would ruin it and follow Kaidoh home after practice.

"Hey!" Momoshiro leapt off his bike and slung an arm around Kaidoh. "You hungry? Let's get something to eat! Your treat!"

Kaidoh opened his mouth to say no when, of course, his stomach gurgled. Loudly. Because he was a teenage boy who trained a lot and was always hungry. All Kaidoh's stomach was good for was feeling empty and making embarrassing noises at all the wrong times.

"Hah, I knew it!" Moving his grip to around Kaidoh's neck, Momoshiro started to bodily drag Kaidoh down the path, his other arm towing the bike behind him. The front tire bumped against the back of Kaidoh's ankles and he hissed. "Don't worry, I know a good place! You can afford it!"

If only he could just run away from the idiot but there was no way he'd give Momoshiro the satisfaction of that. At least, it was just a meal. The way Momoshiro ate, it would be over in five minutes.

* * *

"Geez, you surprise me, Viper. I thought you'd get a salad or something."

Kaidoh felt a small pang of guilt as he sat down across from Momoshiro in the booth. He should have gotten a salad. It'd be healthier for him and his mother would be sad if she found out that he filled up on a hamburger and fries before her dinner. She wouldn't know, he told himself determinedly as he unwrapped his sandwich. Besides, he really was hungry.

"This is a good place, right? Me and Echizen come here a lot. Not too expensive!" Momoshiro opened his big stupid mouth and ate half of his sandwich in one bite.

Grunting, Kaidoh picked up his burger. It was an okay place but he wasn't going to tell Momoshiro that.

Chewing furiously, Momoshiro swallowed. "Me and Echizen are pretty good friends. It's too bad he had stuff to do today."

Kaidoh grunted again, taking a bite.

"Sometimes we race to see who can finish eating first. Well, I race. But Echizen's racing in spirit, I know it!" Momoshiro almost swallowed the rest of his sandwich whole and then stuck some fries into his mouth too.

"If we raced, I'd win," Kaidoh muttered before eating more of his burger.

"Yeah right! You're so slow, Viper," Momoshiro crowed, spraying bits of chewed up potato on the table between them. "I'm already done with my burger! You'd already be behind!"

"Finish chewing before you speak!" Kaidoh retorted back, not following his own advice first. A piece of hamburger fell out of his mouth and onto his tray.

Momoshiro promptly started laughing so hard, he couldn't sit upright in the booth. Seething, Kaidoh wiped up the chewed meat with a napkin. "Stop laughing! It's not funny!"

"What's not funny?" Kikumaru-senpai asked, popping up from nowhere with a tray in his hands. "Hey Fuji, look who's over here!"

"My my." And Fuji-senpai appeared too, setting down his tray and sliding into the booth next to Kaidoh. "Such a surprise to see both you here, together."

Kaidoh glared at his food as Momoshiro propped himself upright, still laughing, so that Kikumaru-senpai could sit down. "Viper just sprayed some food while telling me not to talk with my mouth full. The look on his face!"

"Shut up," Kaidoh hissed, switching his glare to Momoshiro.

"Hy-po-crite!" Momoshiro sing-songed, getting ahold of himself and shoving more fries into his mouth.

"Shut up," Kaidoh said again.

"Aw, don't get bent out of shape over it. It's no big deal, no big deal at all!"

"Then shut up about it!" Normally, Kaidoh wouldn't care much either but Momoshiro was just so loud.

"Kikumaru-senpai, it's too bad I didn't stop you before you left the clubhouse. I had to drag Viper here instead!"

"I don't know, it looks like you're having a good time together," Kikumaru said with a wide grin. "You don't seem too upset about it!"

Before Kaidoh could say that he wasn't having a good time, Momoshiro opened his big stupid mouth again. "Yeah, it's just like being with Echizen except Viper's not as good at tennis."

"You!" Kaidoh half stood, one hand reaching forward and grabbing the front of Momoshiro's shirt, the other clenching to introduce the moron to Kaidoh's fist. But at that moment, Inui walked up to their table, his notebook open and pencil working furiously. "Hello. What's happening over here? Anything interesting?" Inui asked, his glasses glinting.

Robbed of hitting Momoshiro, Kaidoh snatched one of Momoshiro's fries off his tray and ate it in retaliation.

"Nothing very much," Fuji answered pleasantly, pouring some green sauce from a plastic container that he had pulled out of his schoolbag onto his hamburger. "We've just gotten here ourselves."

"Me and Kaidoh are being friendly," Momoshiro said boldly to Inui. Kaidoh sputtered indignantly. The idiot had a weird definition of being friendly!

"Well, except for that," Fuji added. "That's pretty interesting. I wonder if pigs are flying. Could you check outside for me, Inui?"

That was it, Kaidoh wasn't going to sit there and be made fun of. He stood abruptly. "I've got to go."

"So soon?" Fuji asked, smiling at him.

"Yeah, I gotta go too. Me and him have got stuff to do," Momoshiro said to Kaidoh's increasing horror, standing as well.

"No, we don't!" What was wrong with the idiot today? Did he get hit by a stray tennis ball?

"Have fun," Inui-senpai said as Kikumaru and Fuji stood to let Kaidoh and Momoshiro out of the booth. "It's good to see you both getting along for once."

* * *

"Nice home!"

"Take off your shoes," Kaidoh said while toeing his own off. "They're covered in dirt." He hadn't responded to any of Momoshiro's chatter as they had walked here, but that hadn't dissuaded the other boy at all. And he had tried to shut the door in Momoshiro's face but Momoshiro had shoved an arm inside and forced his way in.

"Hey, I was going to. You didn't have to say that at all," Momoshiro said, hurriedly kicking his shoes off too.

"Kaoru?" his mother called from the kitchen. "Do you have someone with you?"

"Stay here," Kaidoh commanded to Momoshiro and then quickly went to the kitchen. "Yes, but don't worry, he's going home soon."

His mother was washing dishes at the sink and smiled over her shoulder at him. "Are you sure? He could stay for dinner, there's always more than enough. We're eating a little late tonight, so there would be time to work on homework before."

"No, he can't stay. He's just...he's just picking something up. And he's on a diet, he can't eat much."

"Lie!" Momoshiro shouted from the hallway.

Kaidoh gritted his teeth at his mother's confused look. "He just ate before coming here. I'll get the book he wants and he'll go home."

"I can't believe you lie to your mother," Momoshiro said when Kaidoh stalked back into the hallway.

"I can't believe you're such a moron," Kaidoh snapped back in a low voice. "Go home! Now!"

"Not until I get the book I came here for," Momoshiro countered, grinning his stupid grin.

"There's no-!" Kaidoh took a deep breath. "Fine. Wait here, I think Hazue has a book simple enough for you to understand. I'll get it and you'll go home."

"Not a chance, I want to see this place!" Momoshiro said and followed Kaidoh up the stairs.

"I didn't invite you!"

"Hey, is that your room?" Momoshiro asked, pushing past Kaidoh and heading straight for...Kaidoh's room.

"No!" This was getting worse and worse.

Momoshiro slid the door open. "Another lie! I don't know how you can stand it, lying so much!" He sauntered into Kaidoh's room before Kaidoh could stop him.

"It's all your fault," Kaidoh said, following Momoshiro. Well, it partly was. "Now get out of here! Take this and leave." He snatched one of his tennis magazines off the floor and threw it at Momoshiro.

Momoshiro caught it and looked at the cover. "Oh, I've got this one. I liked the article on the different kinds of dashes," he said, laughing. And then the idiot plopped down on Kaidoh's bed and started to read the magazine right there. Kaidoh let out a shout of frustration.

"Kaoru, are you alright?" his mother called from downstairs.

"Yeah, you shouldn't worry your mother like that."

"I'm fine!" he yelled out the open door and slid it closed. "You're so annoying," Kaidoh declared.

"Yeah yeah, you too," Momoshiro said distractedly, still flipping through the magazine. "Now be quiet, I'm reading."

Striding over to the bed, Kaidoh snatched his magazine out of Momoshiro's hands and threw it to the side. "You're not welcome. Go home."

Momoshiro stared up at Kaidoh. "Hey, what's your problem? I wasn't doing anything, anything at all!"

Kaidoh grabbed the front of Momoshiro's shirt and pulled back a fist. "You're here! That's enough!"

Momoshiro looked between Kaidoh's face and his clenched fist and frowned. "You're gonna punch me? Really?"

That was a good question. It suddenly didn't feel right to hit Momoshiro for being Momoshiro and invading his house and space and laughing at him and reading a magazine. Feeling embarrassed and remembering his earlier words to Inui-senpai, Kaidoh let go of the front of Momoshiro's shirt. "It's not like I haven't before," he muttered.

"Yeah but I wasn't really doing anything this time." Momoshiro leaned back on his hands on the bed and laughed, stretching out his legs. "Is this how you make friends, Viper? You hit Inui-senpai yet?"

"No," Kaidoh grumbled and moved to get away but Momoshiro's stupid legs tripped him. He lost his balance, leaned too far forward to correct it, and fell towards the bed. Catching himself on his hands, he ended up with his face a few inches from Momoshiro.

"Whoa, that was kinda close," Momoshiro said with a grin.

Kaidoh glared back. Why was Momoshiro like this, one moment laughing at him and the next almost...friendly? Sometimes he was even both at once! Kaidoh wanted to shout for him to be one or the other like Kaidoh was. It would serve the moron right if Kaidoh were confusing for a change! And so he leaned forward those last few inches and slid his lips against Momoshiro's.

Momoshiro immediately jerked his head back, eyes wide. He was speechless and it felt good to shut Momoshiro up for once. Inui-senpai doesn't want me to fight, Kaidoh thought distractedly. And so it made perfect sense to Kaidoh to lean back down and kiss Momoshiro again.

Letting out a muffled sound, Momoshiro swung out and knocked Kaidoh's arms out from under him, making Kaidoh collapse on Momoshiro, mouth slipping off. "What are you doing?"

That was another good question and contrariness didn't seem like a good enough answer. Was it revenge? Frustration? Curiosity at how things might've turned out if Momoshiro hadn't been so dismissive about Kaidoh's things several last year?

"Not fighting, asshole," Kaidoh finally settled on. "You?"

Momoshiro stared at him and then slowly grinned. "Being friends, jerk," he answered and he ran a hand through Kaidoh's hair, pulling the bandana off.

Kaidoh stared back, surprised. Momoshiro took that moment to throw the bandana off the side of the bed and pulled Kaidoh's face back to his. The kiss was at an awkward angle so Kaidoh shifted forward, putting his weight on his hands on either side of Momoshiro's head. He moved one of his legs between Momoshiro's and Momoshiro jerked his hips up. Kaidoh rubbed his leg again against the hardness there and Momoshiro broke off the kiss with a gasp.

"Don't wanna freak you out," Momoshiro said a little raggedly, "but since you seem okay so far..." He slid a hand up Kaidoh's side, curling around Kaidoh's neck to pull him down. Kaidoh leaned in to the kiss, only to have Momoshiro bite at his lips instead.

Startled, Kaidoh tried to pull back but Momoshiro's hand held his head firmly in place. In fact, Momoshiro pushed him to the side and bit the side of Kaidoh's neck. Kaidoh swallowed at the sensation of hard teeth against his skin and the drag as Momoshiro ran them lightly down his tendon. Almost jumping as a hot, wet feeling replaced the teeth, Kaidoh couldn't help hissing as Momoshiro licked the skin he had just bitten.

Momoshiro pulled back to throw him a challenging grin and Kaidoh scowled. With only a small hesitation at the gauntlet thrown, he slid his hand into Momoshiro's shorts and up his cock. Reaching the base, he reached around and rolled Momoshiro's balls in his hand, pulling on them slightly.

"Ah!" Momoshiro gasped, his hips jerking upwards again and lifting his legs so that his feet rested on the bed.

Kaidoh moved with him, up and back down to re-straddle one of Momoshiro's legs. He pulled on Momoshiro's balls again and felt the resulting jerk straight on his cock. The position was more than a little hard as a lot of Kaidoh's weight rested on one hand buried in the bed near Momoshiro's shoulder. But as he rubbed himself against Momoshiro's hip, he couldn't find himself caring.

Just when he had found a really good rhythm, Momoshiro suddenly pushed Kaidoh off to the side. Kaidoh opened his mouth to protest, only to see Momoshiro wiggling out of his shorts. "C'mon Viper, let's get these clothes off."

Clothes off? Kaidoh froze, uncertain. It only took a second for Momoshiro to notice that Kaidoh wasn't undressing too and he glanced up. They locked gazes and the look in Momoshiro's eyes was again challenging and seemed to be asking if Kaidoh was scared.

He could do anything the idiot did! The next few moments were a bit confused, with both of them almost kicking each other as they both got rid of their shorts. But when they were both naked from the waist down, Kaidoh hesitated again.

"Hey." Kaidoh pulled his gaze from where it had been roaming Momoshiro's lower stomach and up to his eyes. The idiot's eyebrow was raised in question and Kaidoh shrugged in response. Rolling his eyes, Momoshiro reached over and pulled on Kaidoh's cock.

Letting out a gasp at the sensation, Kaidoh bit his lip. Momoshiro hummed and pulled Kaidoh back into his lap, leaning up to bite at his neck, curling his hand again around Kaidoh's length and stroking.

Not wanting to be out-done, Kaidoh moved his hand back to Momoshiro's cock but he kept having trouble keeping focus. Momoshiro's mouth was biting lightly again at his neck and it felt so good and Momoshiro's hand was on him and that felt even better. He closed his eyes but could still see Momoshiro's grin behind his eyelids. The hand on his cock shifted, fingers forming a tight circle around the diameter, and the ring stroked up and down. Hissing as the grin disappeared in an explosion of white dots, Kaidoh came and collapsed partially on Momoshiro. He panted, blinking rapidly, his head turned to the side. Momoshiro removed his hand slowly and Kaidoh shuddered.

"Have a good time, Viper?"

Kaidoh jerked his head back and glared at Momoshiro on sheer principle. "You did too!"

"Yeah, except..." The idiot waggled his eyebrows and his hips and Kaidoh realized the cock in his hand was still hard. A little embarrassed, he twisted his hand and pulled down firmly. Momoshiro thankfully stopped moving his eyebrows and closed his eyes, arching in time with Kaidoh's hand.

Despite himself, Kaidoh watched Momoshiro's face as he jerked him off. It was flushed and Momoshiro's mouth was open and panting. It should've looked stupid but it didn't. Momoshiro's arms fell at his sides, clutching the bedspread. He continued to thrust up into Kaidoh's touch, the movement causing Kaidoh to rub himself against Momoshiro's leg. Kaidoh, in turn, bit back his moans and sped up his hand at Momoshiro's unspoken insistence.

Finally, the idiot let out a loud groan, stilling. The cock jerked in Kaidoh's hand, Momoshiro's eyes flew open and Kaidoh stared into them as the closest thing he had to a rival came.

"Uhn," Momoshiro moaned, looking dazed. He stared up at Kaidoh staring down at him and suddenly pushed at Kaidoh yet again. Toppled easily, Kaidoh fell off to Momoshiro's side.

"Oof! Jerk!"

"It's too weird having you looking down at me like that. Too weird," Momoshiro groaned.

"Well, your hair is weird," Kaidoh mumbled because he had to say something.

"And that insult was laaaame. You're losing it."

After what had just happened, Kaidoh couldn't really argue with that. He rolled over onto his back on the bed and flung an arm over his eyes. "Why the hell did you follow me home? For this?"

"Aw, what? We aren't friends now?" Momoshiro shifted on the bed next to him.

"No, we're rivals." Did rivals do stuff like this? Kaidoh thought the answer was probably no. "Rivals... with benefits."

Momoshiro let out a bark of laughter. "Yeah, that's one way to put it. You sure we're not friends?"

"What, you do this with the brat?"

Momoshiro was silent for a moment until he figured out who Kaidoh meant. "No! Geez, you think Echizen would be interested in this? Is your brain broken, Viper?"

"Why're you so insistent on us being friends then?"

"Well...okay, don't get mad. It's because of something Inui said."

Kaidoh lifted his arm from over his eyes and looked at Momoshiro. "Inui-senpai?"

"Yeah! Inui said that I couldn't become friends with you. I said that of course the great Momo-chan-senpai could! Everyone likes me! Then he said a bunch of weird stuff about personality indexes and told me a lot of numbers. You know Inui and his numbers!"

Yeah, Kaidoh knew about Inui's numbers. In fact, some numbers were starting to suspiciously line up in Kaidoh's mind. "What else did he say?"

"He said it was pretty obvious that it couldn't happen but it'd be a neat experiment. And that if I wanted to do it and make it work, I should start right away." Momoshiro chuckled. "This is a pretty good start, right?"

Kaidoh gritted his teeth. Inui-senpai was so dead.

"Hey, have you ever wondered what might've happened if I hadn't accidentally messed up your bandana when we were first years? Maybe we would've really been friends instead of fighting all the time."

Startled at having his earlier thought echoed, Kaidoh shrugged. "You probably would've done something else stupid. You're good at that."

"Well, you're good at over-reacting! Can't you tell when I'm just kidding around?" Momoshiro shot back.

"Kidding around?"

"Yeah! Guys do that you..." Momoshiro turned on his side and stared at Kaidoh. "You don't know? You don't know!"

"Not everyone's as laid back as you, moron," Kaidoh muttered, more than a little embarrassed.

"Okay okay, it's all okay! I'll just give you a signal so that you know. I know! I'll stomp my foot twice if I'm joking around. You can remember that, right?"

Kaidoh snorted. "That's stupid."

"...Okay, maybe a little. I think I'd be stomping a lot and I don't think I can pass it off as training or something." Things were silent for a moment until Momoshiro asked, "So, you didn't answer my question. Are we friends?"

"Barely rivals," Kaidoh snapped back.

"With benefits?" Momoshiro added slyly, waggling his stupid eyebrows again.

Kaidoh reached out a hand and smacked him.
