Title: And I hope you like your pictures facing down.
Pairing: Treckett (William Beckett/Travis McCoy)
Rating: PG.
Disclaimer: Title belongs to Mayday Parade. William Beckett and Travis McCoy belong to themselves, unfortunately.
Summary: He wishes Travis could see what he's done to the memories of them.

This wasn't supposed to happen.

Travis wasn't supposed to fall out of love. William wasn't supposed to catch him with that girl they met last week at a club. They weren't supposed to end their relationship with screaming and William's fist colliding with a wall.

William realizes that you can't follow a schedule when it comes to the universe, though. You can't plan everything out ahead so it'll be the exact way you want it to be and you certainly can't force anybody to be who you want them to be.

He wished things were different. He wished he'd have known this was coming before he unlocked Travis' door with his key that Travis gave him when they became serious only to be welcomed by the sight of Travis on top of a girl. He wished he could turn back time and make it all go away because this isn't the way he wanted things to be.

---
William is one of those people who wants to give everybody a chance, a second chance, a third. He wants to believe that everybody has at least some good in them. He wants to prove to the world that there's not one person wasting space on earth who's purely evil.

But he can't help but hate the girl who got to spend the night with Travis. The girl who was in William's spot on Travis' bed. The girl who contributed to William's world spinning out of control and finally crashing down. The girl who knew that he was with Travis, knew that they were in love. Or at least, appeared to be in love. William is pretty sure Travis isn't in love with him anymore because Travis never would have done this to him before when he did love William.

---

First, he goes through denial. He doesn't believe this is really happening to him. His boyfriend of years, his love, his soul mate did this to him. The only guy he ever trusted to acquire his heart. He actually believe Travis wouldn't break it. How stupid of him. How stupid, idiotic he was to believe that Travis wouldn't take his heart, use it to feel loved and give love as he pleased, and then throw it to the side of the road as it were garbage when he was bored with it?

Soon, William feels angry. Travis used him, he thinks. Travis took all he could from William and then just walked away. He used him up and moved on as if their relationship was some sort of joke, a bad riddle to soon be forgotten when something better comes along. And William was believing Travis loved him all along. Travis probably never loved him, William realizes. He was probably just a fill in to make Travis feel good about himself and loved when no one else could do it. He was probably just there for Travis to have fun with. He smashes every framed picture they have together, tears the photos out and rips them. He shreds letters, lyrics, movie tickets, and everything else he has that reminds him of Travis to tiny little pieces. He throws out anniversary gifts. He kicks a bear Travis bought for William on Valentine's day. He smashes a bottle of Travis' cologne on the floor and doesn't even bother to clean it up until the smell fills the room with Travis' scent and William can't bare it for another moment. He cries. He punches things. He cries more. He wishes Travis could see what he's done to the memories of them.

Next, William realizes he's made a mistake. He's walked away from Travis just like he keeps thinking Travis walked away from him. What if Travis just made a mistake? What if Travis is waiting on his hands and knees, ready to beg him to forgive him? William tried to believe it was true. He went over to Travis' apartment, gave Travis options like "Promise me you'll never do it again and we can go back to normal." and "I love you and I want you in my life, so I forgive you. Please, take me back." but Travis wasn't having it. Travis wanted this. Travis wanted to be over. He liked his new freedom.

After that, William became depressed. Travis didn't want him. The only person who ever truly meant anything to William didn't want him. What the hell could he do with himself if he didn't have Travis? He certainly wasn't going to hang out with Pete, go to The Butcher's birthday party, or go shopping with Gabe. He wasn't going to eat, sleep, shower, or leave his apartment, either. He was going to lay in his bed, stare at the ceiling, and think about Travis.

Finally, William gets tired of staring at the ceiling. He gets tired of laying in bed watching romance movies and reading mystery novels all day. He gets tired of declining offers to hang out with his friends, and not going to shows, and just everything. He just wants to live again. He just wants to be himself again and eventually he realizes he could be himself without Travis. It wasn't the same, of coarse. He was with Travis for long enough that he felt like he and Travis were one person, sharing one mind. But he tries and he succeeds. He isn't over Travis. He isn't even close, but he accepts that they are apart. He knows it is best because Travis doesn't love him anymore and why would he want to be with someone who doesn't love him the way he loves them?

---

A lot of things remind William of Travis. Sometimes, it makes him feel sad. Sometimes, it makes him feel angry. Usually, it makes him smile. Even though all of the physical proof of their relationship is gone, smashed and shredded and kicked, William still has memories. He still has the image of he and Travis walking hand in hand through a park and he still remembers Pete rep-remanding them about it later because it was dangerous to let fans see them that way. He still remembers their first kiss, their last kiss, and the kisses they shared in between. He remembers Travis' scent. He remembers Travis' eyes. He remembers Travis' smile and how it usually made an appearance as soon as he entered a room and smiled at Travis. He remembers hugs and love and a million other moments he'll never let go of, and somehow that's enough.
